Boston area info

I want to go see the Patriots play in Sept. Not sure what area to stay in. I want to fly into Boston and not have to rent a car. How do I get around? What is the best area to stay in? I%26#39;ve hear you can get around by trolley or train? Would someone please help I have never been to Boston and I have been trying to research it on my own.

Boston area info

As you%26#39;re probably aware, the Patriots play in Foxboro, which is a considerable distance (maybe 25-30 miles?) from Boston. There is a special train on game days that takes fans from South Station to the game and back. That is probably your best bet.

South Station is easily accessible from anywhere in the city. Where to stay depends on lots of factors, including your budget and what you%26#39;re interested in (besides football). Hotels get extensively discussed here--just browse through the forum and read some of the hotel reviews, there%26#39;s plenty of information. But in any case, one of the key facts about ';where to stay'; in Boston is that the city is geographically compact. Practically all hotels are close to the major attractions, and it%26#39;s easy to get around by subway/trolley/bus/taxi and especially, on foot.

If you have more specific questions, ask away.

Boston area info

The New England Patriots do not play in Boston. They play in a town called Foxboro. It%26#39;s about 35 miles outside of Boston.

In the past there has been a game day train that leaves Boston%26#39;s South Station and arrives at the stadium about 30 minutes before the opening kick off, and sits there on the tracks until 30 minutes after the clock runs out. If you miss that train you are out of luck. Also, T (MBTA, the organization that runs that train) is having financial problems and threatening to cut off ALL weekend service. No decisions have been made yet, and these may be a presentation of %26#39;worst case scenario%26#39; --- only time will tell.

So, if you are going to be here a few days, you probably want to stay in downtown Boston and enjoy the sites and you won%26#39;t need a car. But, if you need to get to Foxboro and the trains aren%26#39;t running, you%26#39;ll need to rent one for the day.

Boston Hotels charge $35+ a day to park with them. There are garages around that are a bit less expensive on weekdays and significantly less expensive on weekends.

Parking for the game at foxboro will also be expensive. I%26#39;ll let the football fans fill you in ... I attended a concert there last year, and was surprised at the price ... And, when we left that concert, we went to our car, but never even started the engine until 2 hours later because the parking lot was grid-locked and nothing was moving!!!

I can%26#39;t imagine football games are much different except that those fans are probably more prepared for tail-gating after the game, knowing they shouldn%26#39;t expect to leave quickly.

Another alternative might be to look for a %26#39;package deal%26#39; that includes hotel and transportation to the game. I%26#39;ve seen them advertised for most sports venues .... Good Luck and Happy Planning!

Sorry to repeat wpsaukee%26#39;s info ... I was composing while he was typing!
