Boston - Downtown or Cambridge?

Hi all,

Will hopefully be spending New Year in Boston this year and it seems a lot cheaper to stay around MIT in Cambridge than Boston itself. Obviously this is due to location, but I do not mind using public transport / cabs and was wondering how far and easy it is to go into Boston (Downtown, Freedom Trail etc) from that area?

Thanks

I would just make sure your hotel is convenient to the T. Any stop in Cambridge on the Red Line is going to give you really easy access to downtown. I would not recommend relying on cabs for transportation - they%26#39;re fine for the occasional trip, but they%26#39;re not cheap and they can be difficult to catch during peak times.

The MIT area is close enough to Boston. It is about a mile to the top of Newbury Street.

The MIT area is fine; right on the T%26#39;s red line. Ditto for places like the Royal Sonesta that are near the T%26#39;s green line. Other hotels, such as those on Soldiers Field Road are not near the T are less desirable.
