Hi All,
We are planning a day trip to Nantucket in May and wanted some ideas of what to do and see while we are there.
Thanks for your time.....
Help with Day Trip to NantucketObviously this depends quite a bit on your interests, level of activity, etc., but I would definitely recommend leaving some time to just stroll around Town and soak up the atmosphere and architecture.
One of the ferry companies, Hy-Line, has an affiliate that offers tours of the island by mini-bus. I%26#39;ve never done this, but it might be a nice way to hit the ground running on arrival and get a quick overview of the main sights on the island. The bus picks you up right at the dock.
If you%26#39;re up for more of an adventure, I would recommend renting bikes from Young%26#39;s (on Broad Street, right by the Steamboat wharf) and biking out to Madaket or %26#39;Sconset. There are bike paths for almost the entire way out, and Young%26#39;s can give you a map and some suggestions. %26#39;Sconset is a very pretty seaside village, but I%26#39;d recommend the ride to Madaket for the scenery -- one of the few places in the U.S. with a heath landscape. On the way, you can stop along Cliff Road at Something Natural for some of their excellent sandwiches to take with you for a picnic on the beach at Madaket.
For even more of an adventure, there are places to rent kayaks and explore the harbor. If the weather isn%26#39;t great or you are into history, I%26#39;d also check out the Whaling Museum, which is right downtown.
If you find yourself with a little extra time free, once nice walk/bike ride is over to Brant Point, with its lighthouse, Coast Guard station, and views of the ocean. (It%26#39;s a 15-20 minute walk or 5-min. bike ride from Town.)
Hope this is useful.
