Wellflett or Falmouth?

Hi we%26#39;re a big group of 12 from Montreal(maybe 14) planning a vacation in Cape Cod this summer. 9 adults 3 kids.

We found two rental for our dates one in Wellflett and one in Falmounth. Whitch place would you suggets?

We like a place lively for night strolling, with things to visit, restaurants, a bit of shopping, of course beautiful beaches. I think the water is colder in Wellflett but has waves...is it warmer in Falmouth?

Thanks for your help!

Wellflett or Falmouth?

Wellfleet is a lovely old historic fishing village surrounded by National Seashore. If you had said you wanted to hike, bike, kayak and get away from it all I’d have said it’s the town for you. But the small town center doesn’t have much of a night-life, only a few shops and the walk able beach is within the town harbor and not the cold, wild Atlantic you seem most excited about (you’d have to drive to that beach). As much as I love Wellfleet it sounds like Falmouth is a better base for you.

Wellflett or Falmouth?

I agree with the previous post for the most part, but Wellfleet is a relatively short distance from Provincetown, which offers lots of what you%26#39;re looking for... about a 20 minute drive.

I lived in Falmouth years ago and have always thought of it as a ';real'; town, as opposed to ';tourist Mecca';... and both towns have both types of beaches... sheltered OR facing open ocean. In my experience, a lot of the weekly rental homes still require a drive of varying distances to get to the closest beach.

An upside to Falmouth is its proximity to Wood%26#39;s Hole and fery service to the islands, should you decide to take a side trip.

Thanks to both of you! I%26#39;ll have to share your info with the others...Fun to be alot of people but not simple to make any decision!!! (especially when they%26#39;re the in-laws :)

My vote is for Falmouth - it certainly fits the bill for your requests of ........'; We like a place lively for night strolling, with things to visit, restaurants, a bit of shopping, of course beautiful beaches';

Great little downtown, shops both tourist and boutique and lots of restaurants and a few nice bars. You also will be closse to Woods Hole if you like to visit the WHOI and/or possibly take the ferry for a day trip to the Vineyard

The National Seashore is of course lovely but you can drive there on one of your days to see the big waves and high dunes if you like ......but Falmouth has nice beaches for families too!

Hello Monteal- i don%26#39;t have time right now to discuss it but check out all my posts about the benefits of visiting Falmouth. Where is you rental located?

Ok people chnage of plans..how about Bourne?

Bourne is considered the Upper Cape and is divided by the Cape Cod Canal - It is really not on my radar when I think of Cape Cod so I am not familiar with its beaches (the only one of I know of is Monument Beach and have not been there)

But again it is not too far from Falmouth so you could travel to get to some of the things you like. But if you are interested in being close to the items you listed in your original request I still vote for Falmouth. Maybe your numbers are causing you some trouble in finding accommodations. So you might have to be flexible and if that means Bourne go for it.

';Beautiful beaches'; was one of your selected criteria so maybe someone on this board might be able to give you some guidance in Bourne.

Thanks Katie, yes finding lodging is pretty hard. Everything is booked! The other 2 places weren%26#39;t really available finally. And our number..well it keeps changing *?%/';'; We might be from 12 to 8 now...

Thanks you so much for everybody%26#39;s help! As you can see I might need more assistance since we%26#39;re still searching! But we won%26#39;t give up!!!

LachinePQ- Have you considered staying in Sandwich? It is a lovely town near Bourne and Falmouth. The only part of Bourne that is charming is a village called Catumet, but there are no hotels there.

If you still prefer Falmouth- and I think you should then call or visit the www.famouthchamber.com. They will help with reservations.

With 8-12 people, you might be better off renting a cottage, depending on how long you are thinking of staying. Some ';cottages'; are quite large with several bedrooms. Though this might necessitate bringing linens and towels. Many savvy cottage rentals offer a service to supply these.

Bourne doesn%26#39;t offer a great town center for strolling and dining, but if you have a car, Falmouth is only 15-20 mins away.

Wareham/Onset while not officially on the Cape, have a similar feel and usually less expensive.
