Parking for MGH employees

I may be starting work at MGH (late afternoons, nights/and or weekends) and from what information I have gathered, public transportation during those hours is either very difficult, long, or non-existent.

Does anyone know of a reasonably priced monthly garage with access at any time of day/night or any other scenario which is not terribly complicated. I live in Newtonville on Crafts/Washington Street.

Not sure of your source, but the T is NOT very difficult or non-existant during any of those times, although I must admit it could be longer than I would like. If you are going to commute by car, you should contact MGH about their employee parking. Renting a space on your own will cost you $400 to $500 a month. And also ask about whether they contribute to a monthly T pass. They should be telling you all of this directly, by the way.

Parking for MGH employees

There is a parking lot on Nashua St., between North Station and Spaulding Rehab Hospital that I believe is specifically for MGH (or Partners) employees. There seems to be a Partners shuttle that runs between that lot and MGH. I%26#39;m not sure, but I pass it every day, and that%26#39;s my recollection of what the signs say.

It%26#39;s been quite awhile since I was using the following routes, and you%26#39;ve probably already gotten that far in your research, but here goes anyway:

There was an express bus from Watertown Square, up Galen, around the Newton Corner ';circle';, then via the Pike, to Copley Square, where you could catch the Green Line, but that may operate only during M-F, 7-7 hours.

There was a bus that ran along Nonantum Road to Watertown Square, with connections to Harvard Square.

There was also a bus from Newtonville to Newton Highlands, but that, too may not work with your schedule.

I forgot to mention the 57 bus, which used to run from Newton Corner to kenmore. It was a slow route, but it ran all sorts of hours.

Thank you so much for your suggestions.

I am still investigating what route to take, since the T stops running at 1am (and I may get out of work at 2am)and I live near the commuter rail. It may be easier to just get a different job,te,he....Thanks everyone!

I use this website for Boston parking and New York parking. It%26#39;s awesome! Plug in the address, daily or monthly and it will show you the rates at all the garages nearby so you can pick and choose.

Another thought... this is a vanpool system organized by the State. It has links that may offer some help...

The MGH has several huge parking lots open 24/7. They must offer a discount for employees. Have you asked about that? Otherwise, the garages in the area are definitely not cheap.

And, I would like to reiterate Alan%26#39;s comment that the T most certainly does run at those times. Though from Newtonville driving would probably take a lot less time.

Thanks for all of your replies. I started my first day on the job at MGH, and it is worse than anyone can possibly imagine! All the parking lots for employees are FULL! and they have a long waiting list. The commute by public transportation would take up at least 4 hours/day...(from Newtonville)fairly humurous since one new hire lives in Beverly, and the commute door to door is 30 minutes. So it seems I should either move further away or look for a new job (this ain%26#39;t workin%26#39;) !!!

I can%26#39;t imagine how the commute from Newtonville to MGH is 2 hours, but it must be something you experienced. So if MGH isn%26#39;t going to help you with parking, then you%26#39;re back to where you started. The closest sort-of public parking nearest to MGH is at Charles River Park, located just behind MGH, so it would be a little walk for you. The garage spaces are owned by individuals and rent for something like $300 or $350 a month. Better than 4 hours a day.

The best commuting locations from Newton area are West Newton and Newtonville from what I%26#39;m seeing about where you live.

The problem with where you live is that the commuter rail runs less frequently yet it has less stops, correct? Supposedly it%26#39;s a much faster commute into south station though %26amp; from there you take the red line right to the MGH stop.

An idea that might not be bad is to get to Nonantum or Newton Corner where it%26#39;s possible to walk to the bus terminal at Watertown Square (formerly Watertown Yard) they have ';Express'; buses leaving for Boston every 6 minutes during rush hour, you could look in to doing that.

It also depends on your situation with a car and all that, if you end up staying where you are then scout out this Express bus on a day you%26#39;re not working to check out parking around Newton Corner or something.

I think I%26#39;d move to Beverly or the North Shore OR any where on the other side of Boston especially if that%26#39;s all your coworkers commute is! Unbelievable difference! I know that when I worked in Boston, I got home quicker than one of my coworkers that lived in Hyde Park, especially in the winter months I%26#39;d still get home much quicker than her, we couldn%26#39;t believe it. You might have to move if you can%26#39;t deal with that commute, can you break your lease, if not, ride it out until you can. Don%26#39;t give up your job, especially with our economy the way it is these days, that%26#39;s fantastic that you got in the door at the MGH to begin with! Do you realize how many people would love to be in your shoes right now %26amp; just want a job, ANY job! You just have to figure out where to live that%26#39;s convenient for you or better yet, try to figure out a better way to get in to Boston every day, that%26#39;s all. Yikes, I don%26#39;t envy you with that commute from there if it%26#39;s 4 hours a day, that%26#39;s totally ridiculous.

I have two family members working at the MGH, they take the commuter rail in to North Station %26amp; then they walk over to the hospital from there, so I guess it%26#39;s easier to get there from the North Shore than where you live. They both said they wouldn%26#39;t drive in if you paid them a million dollars with the parking situation the way it is thru there. So that%26#39;s up to you with that part of it.
