We (Aussies) plan to rent a car in Boston and tour New England and nearby Canada and return the car to Boston. What are the insurance ramifications? ie I%26#39;ve read that some states include insurance (NY) and others don%26#39;t. How does this work in the event of an accident? Also is there extra insurance needed for Canada?
My credit card will cover travel insurance including the CDW up to $2000.

Check your auto insurance there to see if it covers rental vehicles. Sometimes, your credit card will also provide that. If yours covers $2000, obviously that%26#39;s not enough. These are things you need to check before you leave. First I heard that NY includes insurance. Massachusetts does not, nor was I aware that rentals in any state did. You need to get permission from the rental compnay to be able to drive in Canada.
One more thing. Did you ask what the drop-off charges will be to rent in NY and leave the car in Boston? With some companies and destinations, this cost can be considerable.

You should also ask about entering Canada. Being close you may get and urge to cross over. You will want to make sure you have the right coverage for this.
