Best area to stay?

Going to Boston for 3 nights/4 days end of June. We are driving. Where would be the most convenient area to stay to see the sites and still have a nice hotel?

Best area to stay?

The city is small and full of nice hotels. Anywhere between Kenmore Square and the Atlantic Ocean will be fine. You%26#39;ll need to be more specific about your interests and budget if you want hotel recommendations; otherwise, just pick a hotel that looks good to you, and it will be easy enough to get around.

The inconvenient part will be dealing with your car. You ought to plan to leave it parked for your whole stay unless you want to visit some other towns in the area. To save money, consider parking outside the city and taking the T (rapid transit) or commuter rail in.

Best area to stay?

Do any hotels offer free parking if you don%26#39;t move the car until you check out?

Not that we have heard of in Boston proper. Outlying areas yes. Midtown Hotel supposedly lesser expensive to park, but in general figure $35 a day and up.

You might want to consider taking Amtrak instead and leaving your car at home. You really don%26#39;t need one once you%26#39;re in the city.

I believe the Best Western Roundhouse has free parking and decent rates, but it is in a location that is not very close to anything except Boston Medical Center and is surrounded by major roads and highway access ramps. This can be in your favor if you%26#39;re just driving into town and plan on parking your car, and take advantage of their shuttle service to the subway. This area is NOT pedestrian-friendly.

Reviews seem good for the property itself, as far as friendly staff, room size and cleanliness.

Amtrack might work. Guess I would need to look at rates from Newark, Penn Station and see if it%26#39;s cheaper for 4 roundtrip train tix or the gas and parking fees in Boston. Thanks!

You can stay outside of the city, say at the Quincy Marriott, and take the T into town. That would eliminate your downtown parking fees.

Hi,

If you want to drive to Boston, there are plenty of nice moderately-priced hotels just outside the city, with free parking and easy access to a T stop so you can get back and forth.

The Quincy Marriott is a very nice hotel, and it%26#39;s about a half-mile from the Red Line at Quincy Adams. Just be aware that it%26#39;s in the middle of a barren office park with absolutely nothing around it. As long as you don%26#39;t mind having to use the car to go somewhere, it%26#39;s a good option.

Another good option is the Braintree Sheraton Tara. It%26#39;s a very nice hotel, across the street from the South Shore Plaza (a huge mall). It%26#39;s got free parking, and a shuttle to the T, or it%26#39;s a 5 minute or less drive to Quincy Adams. The reason I mention it, is because I book it frequently for visitors of mine, and I use Priceline bidding. I%26#39;ve gotten it consistently for around $85/night, which is an excellent price.

I%26#39;ve done the Priceline bidding 6 times now, and have gotten the Tara each time, so if you want to bid $80 per night on a 3 1/2 star upscale plus hotel, in the ';Braintree-Randolph-Quincy'; zone, you should do fine. There are only two hotels in the area that fit the description. One is the Tara and the other is the Quincy Marriott.

The Tara is right off of I-93 so if you are coming up from NJ by car, it would be convenient for you.

Good luck!

What great advice! How much does a pass for the ';T'; cost? Also, does the Quincy Marriott have a pool and continental breakfast that you know of?

Hi,

From the MBTA website:

Day/Week LinkPass $9.00 for 1 day

$15.00 for 7 days

Unlimited travel on Subway, Local Bus, Inner Harbor Ferry, and Commuter Rail Zone 1A.

7-Day Pass valid for 7 days from the date and time of purchase.

I guess they got rid of the 3 day pass, sorry. With the pass, you will be able to travel on any of the Subway lines, including from Quincy Adams, so you would be covered. Parking at Quincy Adams is $7/day. You can take commuter rail to places like Salem, but not with this pass.

I know the Tara has both an indoor and outdoor pool, but I don%26#39;t think the Marriott has a pool.

Here are the websites for both:
