Ok, I have read all the posts about the MTBA and transportation, and I just need to know what%26#39;s the best and most economical way to do our trips into Boston from Rockport (this summer). We%26#39;ll be going twice: One day hubby and boys (10 and 12) are going into Boston and back to Rockport for a Sox game; one day myself plus them will be going into Boston to see the city then returning to Rockport. I anticipate that those will be the only times going into the city. It sounds to me that we have to buy the commuter rail tickets from Rockport to downtown each time, for three of us--the 10 year old is free, right? The weekly pass will do us no good as we will be needing the commuter rail, not the subway, right? Is there a package of tickets that we could buy or is it just the same price each time? Please clarify and advise. I really appreciate it!
Transportation Recommendations-- Staying in Rockport
You are correct in assuming you can%26#39;t use the weekly Link Pass for the commuter rail from Rockport. You would have to buy your tickets at the Rockport Station and travel into Boston from there. But there could be some serious problems with your commute between Rockport and Boston. Read this article from the other day.

Transportation Recommendations-- Staying in Rockport
If you have a car the most economical way might be to drive part way, park for $5-$7 and get on the subway. (The 10yo would ride free, the rest of you would pay $2 per ride -- $4 round trip.)
It looks like a r/t ticket on commute rail from Rockport will be $15.50 each for three of you (and free for the 10yo) and then you%26#39;d need to still get from North Station to fenway, a $4 each r/t subway ride for the over-10 folks.
thanks for the info and the link to the news report. That will seriously impact a lot of people more than just little ol me. If you would, please post on TA when the legislature acts and someting is official.
For us, how far would we need to drive into the city to pick up the subway? Thanks!
Your subway options from Rockport would be to go to Revere%26#39;s Wonderland Blue-Line T stop, Wellington Orange-Line T Stop, Oak Grove or Malden Center%26#39;s Orange-Line T stop. They will probably take close to an hour to reach any of these stops from Rockport. Another option is just drive in to Boston and park at the Boston Common Garage. The parking is only $11 for all day parking on weekends and after 4 PM week nights. The drive to Boston from Rockport is approximately an hour with NO traffic.
