Rom's Restaurant

Just curious... When and why did Rom%26#39;s close? We usually stopped there at leaast once on our Fall weekend trips to OSV. They always seemed to have plenty of patrons, and very good (especially the Italian dishes) food at a reasonable price.

I grew up in the Sturbridge area and when I read your post, I couldn%26#39;t believe that Rom%26#39;s had closed!

Had to ask my sister (who still lives in the area), and she reports that the owners were ready for retirement %26amp; none of the younger generation in the family wanted to continue the family business.

Not sure if they couldn%26#39;t or wouldn%26#39;t sell the business, but the building/land has been sold and soon a CVS will be built in that spot...

Chickenlady-

Small world when I saw that you write on the C%26#39;ville forum! I grew up in Hamilton (north of Boston) and my husband is from Athol (west/central MA) but we lived 15 yrs in Worcester before moving to C%26#39;ville. My in-laws were ALWAYS going to Rom%26#39;s for dinner. They are very disappointed with the closing. Too bad it%26#39;s a CVS and not another restaurant taking over the space.

Yes, quite disappointing. We%26#39;ve been going there for many years. We%26#39;re from Connecticut, and it was a half-way point to meet Massachusetts friends for dinner. Prior to its demise, it just wasn%26#39;t the same as it had been, say, twenty years ago, when it was about the best place in the area!
