Plimouth Plantation vs Sturbridge Village

Somewhat similar but not really similar at all, if that makes any sense, haha.

Plimoth Plantation depicts the life of the early settlers to America and their fragile co-existence with the Native American Indians. Both ';villages'; are a great learning experience. It%26#39;s really a fabulous place to interact with the settlers (actors)and native americans(real people). Very enjoyable and educational.

OSV depicts the life of later day settlers. You will learn about their life as shoemakers, metal workers, yarn weavers, farmers etc. This village is made up of homes, businesses and a farm. It%26#39;s also very educational but not as interactive as Plimoth is.

I guess it really comes down to what would interest you more, the early settler life or the later settler life. For myself, I find Plimoth to be the better of the two. It%26#39;s more interesting to me and it doesn%26#39;t hurt that you can go visit the MayflowerII, Pilgrim Hall Museum and all the wonderful restaurants along the Plymouth harbor afterwards!

Plimouth Plantation vs Sturbridge Village

If you went to Sturbridge Village where else would you be going? It is much farther than PP. I enjoy SV but if I were traveling from London, I would probably choose PP as it is on the way to Cape Cod and/or because it is a shorter trip. But if you were going to the Berkshires for a couple of days then SV makes sense.

We are travelling around. Starting at Boston, at the end of our trip we will be leaving Stowbridge for Cape Cod and then returning to Boston. This means we will pass both attractions.

Thank You

plimouth plantation is like a large stage set theres nothing really to see its all about interacting with the actors. stubridge is real history buildings have been brought to the site and are filled with art and artaficts of the 1850%26#39;s its all about watching craftman work and explain life in preindustral NE its more of a learnig experence not the entertement of plinouth.

';Stowbridge';? Do you mean Sturbridge? If so, the I suggest SV over PP.

As has been mentioned already the time periods depicted are one of the most notable differences. Plimoth Plantation (PP) is 1627, Old Sturbridge Village (OSV) is the 1830%26#39;s. Another difference is physical size. You%26#39;ll walk a lot more at OSV. It%26#39;s more spread out while PP is a much more compact. Both are historically accurate with regard to their size though. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, the two museums present themselves from different perspectives. At PP the ENTIRE village is ALWAYS in 1st person. The people you meet ';are'; the people who were living there...they are living in the present tense. At OSV the majority of the museum is presented from a 3rd person perspective by folks dressed in period clothes...they talk about the past as though it is the past. There are specific buildings or specific times at which you can find 1st person interpretation, but not the entire village all the time. I have been to each on several occasions and although I realize this sounds non-committal, both museums are excellent and have something to offer. I have to say though I think PP offers the more unique view of history. Hope that helps!

Thank you all for your replies - they have given me food for thought.
