we are looking for a restaurant to have a great New england clam/lobsterbake. We have one recommendation for the Barking Crab... any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Barking Crab is a nice place to hang out on a warm summer night drinking a beer but the food is just not that good. For a good New England Clambake I would eat recommend Legal Seafood. Great chowder at Legal(I do not like Barking Crab%26#39;s chowder) but you are not going to get the ambience of a lobster bake the best experience for that would be a drive to Woodman%26#39;s of Essex.

I wish there was an edit button on TA ....
Barking Crab is a nice place to hang out on a warm summer night drinking a beer but the food is just not that good. For a good New England Clambake in Boston, I would recommend Legal Seafood, great chowder at Legal (I do not like Barking Crab%26#39;s chowder). But if you want the ambience of a traditional New England lobster bake, then the best experience for that would be to drive to Woodman%26#39;s of Essex.
Another option in Boston is Jasper White%26#39;s Summer Shack on Dalton Street which is next door to the Back Bay Hilton. They offer a New England Clam Bake as well as many fine seafood options.
I would not eat here. If only drinking I still would go else where. I think the atmosphere is better right across the street at The Dailey Catch.
Ditto for the Daily Catch - I would never eat at the Barking Crab.
I love the Daily Catch ... but they don%26#39;t have a Traditional New England Clam Bake on their menu, and I%26#39;ve never seen it as a special, but that doesn%26#39;t mean they don%26#39;t have it.
How long will you be in Boston? Are you considering day trips? If you are considering a day trip to Provincetown via high speed ferry, I suggest you save your clam bake and get it there at Towsends Seafood right on the pier or The Lobster Pot Restuarant or the Post Office Cafe
we are planning to go to gloucester to whale watch one morning, any suggestions near there for a clam/lobsterbake?
Woodman%26#39;s in Essex is a famous and popular choice, quite close to Gloucester: http://www.woodmans.com/.
Will you be driving to Gloucester?
If you want something a bit less rustic than Woodman%26#39;s, check out %26#39;The Village Restaurant%26#39;, also in Essex.

And for those of you who might have questions about what steamed clams look like ... go to this site and after the outdoor pictures scroll by, you%26#39;ll see a picture of plate of steamed clams and hand dipping a steamed clam (out of the shell) into clam broth.
Hungry now.
