We are staying at The Colonnade over Marathon weekend. Anyone firmiliar with this hotel? Not much talk of this hotel on this forum.
Can anyone suggest some restaurants nearby for quick reasonably priced breakfasts? Any neat places to stop in for a drink?
Finally.... what are some opinons on the best places to enjoy a bowl of chowder. Prices and location not really an issue!

The Colonnade?I stayed at the Colonnade just once and it was fine. The location is really good. I like Brasserie Jo, which is the hotel restaurant, although I%26#39;m not sure it fits the ';quick, reasonably priced'; criteria. Its not too expensive, but you know, its a hotel restaurant. It is a great place to have a drink though, they have a very good bartender.
I also like the Oak Bar at the Fairmont Copley, just a few blocks away for a drink. Nice classic style. Very expensive martini%26#39;s, but they give you the shaker, so each one is really a double.
You%26#39;re a very short distance from the Prudential Center, where there are many restaurants. One of them is Legal Seafoods, which has excellent chowder. Turner Fisheries in Copley Place does as well. These are just two of a huge number of places in Boston with fine chowder.
And, although I haven%26#39;t been up there in decades (and have never had a drink there), Top of the Hub at the top of the Prudential Building is frequently recommended here as a cool place for a drink.
I haven%26#39;t been in the Colonnade in quite a while, but my main recollection of the place is the day I was walking past the front door, and (then-President)Gerald Ford was checking in, with the motorcade and crowds, etc...
As others have said, the location is very central, with restaurants, shopping, and a subway station just steps away.
I lived for years on St. Botolph St., right behind the Colonnade, and for breakfast, I used to eat at Thornton%26#39;s, located on the next block to the hotel. It was good then, and probably worth a look.

Places for a drink will depend on the atmosphere and crowd you%26#39;re looking for... Boston doesn%26#39;t suffer from a lack of watering holes of all types. My personal favorites would be the Franklin Cafe (great food and drinks) and Tremont 647, both in tyhe South End.
Champions (a large ';sports bar';) is located in Copley Place, adjacent to the Colonnade. For a very low-key neighborhood place, I enjoy Anchovie%26#39;s (inexpensive Italian/pizza/bar)... also in the South End.

My relative stayed there not too long ago. We were up in the room, which was nice enough. They liked the hotel. The location is really great.
Thank you for choosing to stay with us! While we could easily promote our Brasserie Jo - which is terrific and reasonable (all Brasseries are known for reasonable prices: 4star food at 1 star prices) another terrific and not well known option is one block to the right of the hotel-it%26#39;s a small diner called Thorntons. Really good breakfasts and very inexpensive. I hope that helps. The Colonnade Boston.

On the bowl of chowder - you can%26#39;t visit Boston and NOT have a bowl of Legal Seafood clam chowder. Their chowder is award winning every year. Another tip? - if you are counting calories, ask for the LITE Clam Chowder (not mentioned on the menu) but terrific and more like a broth than creamy chowder.
We hope that helps. The Colonnade Boston.
This hotel was just renovated last year.
