Martha's Vineyard - Mid September with a car

Hi there,

I have been planning our September trip and noticed that the prices to take a the ferry from Woods Hole to MV are quite reasonable. I know the transit system on the island is supposed to be very good but how bad would it be if I was to take our vehicle at this time of year?

We are going to have our dog with us and wanted to get out and about to see more of the island and the car would just give us a bit more freedom plus we could cart around coolers and beach chairs etc

Thanks

Pete

Not sure what you mean by %26#39;how bad would it be%26#39;. It wouldn%26#39;t be bad at all. (you already got prices to transport your car on the ferry, right?)

Reserve a place on the ferry for your car as soon as you have definite dates for your September visit.

Sorry, what I meant was that I have read comments posted about how crowded the island gets etc. But that seems to be at the height of summer. Because we are coming after Labour day I was hoping it would quieter and thus a bit easier to get around with less crowds etc.

Other posts seem to recommend against taking a veh but they also seem to just refer to the summer time

The reason folks recommend not taking a vehicle are two-fold: one is making ferry reservations for the car and the other is the cost. If you already priced it out, then you%26#39;re more than halfway there. I%26#39;m a little concerned that you think ferry prices are %26#39;reasonable%26#39;. You sure you priced taking the car itself and not just the people?

Alan: I wondered that too!

Pete: M.V. is still busy enough in September, but the crowds surely thin out once school has started. If you weren%26#39;t taking the dog, I%26#39;d have still suggested alternate means of transport on M.V., but having your own car would be best imo.

From Woods Hole to MV its $135 round trip with car versus $380 to Nantucket from Hyannis. So I thought that was a reasonable enough rate. Unless I am reading it wrong but I think I studied it pretty carefully. I assume that includes the cost of at least the driver and a passenger is extra. Still havent finalised it all yet but just bouncing round some ideas

Pete

I agree: That price is great.

Glad you%26#39;re happy with that. I believe you have to pay forthe driver as well, but it wouldn%26#39;t make abig difference anyway. The reason for the difference in price between MV and Nantucket is the distance the boat has to go.
