Flies

Hello Orleans Experts,

I need your help! We are hoping to purchase a house in Orleans. A few for sale are located on Capt Linnell St. We have been to sunsets at Skaket Beach and Rock Harbor which are beautiful BUT there are lots and lots of flies and gnats. We have been told that it is a desirable area, but I fear being trapped inside a screened porch! How buggy is it during the day? Do the flies follow you inland? Thanks so much for your advice!

Flies

Cape Cod is very buggy in July and August - there is no getting away from it. The mold is a huge issue too. I used to have horrible asthma until I left the Cape. But all of those probelms were there before humans walked the Cape, and I bet it will all be there long after we are gone.

If you are at the beach, the best way to avoid green heads and gnats is to sit at the water-line. If the wind in Orleans is blowing from the west, go to a Bay side beach, if it%26#39;s blowing from the east, hit the Atlantic oceanside beaches. Also, I use a product made by a local Orleans-based company called Welstar. They make a wonderful organic product called PEST AWAY (shoporganiccare.com/store/…) that I would spray on all family members, beds, etc. Smells great, and works like magic. Always support locally owned Cape Cod businesses when on Cape Cod!

Hope that helps!

Good luck and hope you find the house of your dreams. The area you are looking in is as prime as it gets!

Enjoy!

Thanks, Cape Mermaid, I%26#39;ll definitely look into those products. I%26#39;m with you in supporting local business. But I still want to be able to go for a walk without swatting the whole time (like I did in the Pochet area).
