Best time to visit from scotland 2010?

Hi, we are a female gay couple planning a trip to Boston and Provincetown area in 2010 and would really appreciate some experienced advice.

We visited Boston last year, spent a day in Provincetown and totally loved it...so would like to spend 4 - 7 days there on our next trip.

We had originally thought May but then October for Woman%26#39;s Week. anyone know when it is 2010?

We%26#39;d love a central hotel overlooking the water. Any suggestions? (Think I saw one called Dyers?)

My OH would also like a trip around the coast line and we love boat trips. Anyone know of a good tour to see more of the coast?

Any help at all about best times to go, places to stay, restaurants, trips etc. would be most welcome.

Best wishes

Should have mentioned that our trip will be for 2 - 3 weeks in total so should have plenty of time for any trips recommended. Many Thanks.

Hi! To get you started with scheduled events:

http://www.celebrateprovincetown.com/

It%26#39;s starting to get a bit chilly up here in October and it can be rainy.

If you want to avoid the summer crowds, consider visiting in early to mid-September.

For Provincetown lodging choices and TA reviews (read them carefully...and with a %26#39;grain of sand%26#39;;):

http://www.tripadvisor.com/Search?returnTo=__2F__ShowForum__2D__g185492__2D__Cape_Cod_Massachusetts__2E__html%26amp;q=Provincetown+lodging%26amp;geo=185492

I have no idea why that%26#39;s not a live link, but just type ';provincetown lodging'; into the search rectangle on the upper left side of this screen. You%26#39;ll get plenty of choices.

Thanks for that.

We had thought of starting our trip with womens week and ending with Halloween in Salem, cramming in as many trips, tours etc. in the time between.

Any more suggestions welcome!

October is a lovely time to visit New England as long as you don%26#39;t want to go swimming in the ocean (or ponds for that matter) and realize that you will need to bring %26#39;jumpers%26#39; and a light jacket with you. I would think the October weather on the Cape is like late September weather in Greenock and just as unpredictable!

Depending on when Women%26#39;s Week is (sounds like mid-October), you might want to start your trip in New Hampshire or Vermont so that you can see the fall foliage. There are lovely villages and towns in those states and it the colors can be spectacular. But by mid-October they are starting to wane. If your timetable is to do the Cape first, you might consider a swing out to Western Mass (Stockbridge/Lenox area) to see the beautiful scenery before getting back to Boston and Salem for Halloween.

Sorry that I can%26#39;t help you with a specific Ptown hotel recommendation but Fussy has given you good suggestions on how to search.

As for the %26#39;trip around the coast line%26#39;, that%26#39;s easy to do on your own if you have a car rented (which I%26#39;m assuming you will). Get a good map of the Cape and you can pop in and out of spots that include scenic lighthouses, beautiful Cape beaches and quait towns like Wellfleet (which has lots of art galleries).

We prefer the Dolphin fleet out of Ptown for our whale watching trips. But be sure to bundle up if you do that in October (and I mean hat, gloves, scarves!).

Enjoy. If you liked Ptown when you were there earlier, you will really enjoy it after having a year to research and prepare for it.

The small villages on Cape Cod have their local ';festivals'; during the fall. My favorite is Wellfleet%26#39;s Oysterfest, which is always held the weekend after Columbus Day. This year Columbus Day falls on the 12th of October so if you are in Provincetown for the weekend of October 16, 17, 18 be sure to spend some time in Wellfleet for a taste of local color.

Women%26#39;s Week is usually nine or ten days and usually starts on Columbus Day weekend here in the US. In 2010 Columbus Day is Monday, October 11th. So while the official dates haven%26#39;t been announced yet for 2010 it%26#39;s a pretty good guess that it will be Friday, October 8th through Sunday, October 17th.

Hi again, been reading a few posts and looking at sites and it seems that Carnival would be the best time to visit Provincetown. theres not much written about Women%26#39;s week and I%26#39;m wondering if we may be a bit disappointed by it?

We love going to the Pride celebrations here in the UK and think that Carnival may be more suited to us.

Anyone been to the Women%26#39;s Week? Thanks

Carnival Week is a fun and fantastic week to be in P-town. If you want a waterview room, several places including the Crown %26amp; Anchor, the Provincetown Inn, the Red Inn, the Anchor Inn, the Surfside Resort, and a few others I%26#39;m not immediately recalling come to mind. These places might cost more per diem than the bed %26amp; breakfasts and cozy inns that are liberally sprinkled everywhere else a block away from the actual bay beach. If cost is a factor, I%26#39;d opt for one of the pleasant B%26amp;Bs such as Seasons or the Black Pearl on the East End. Both places lack beachside views but are a very short walk to the water and quite affordable.

Also, if planning to include Salem in your US visit, the museums and tourist haunts (which are all a lot of fun for a first-time visit to that historic town) are open pretty-much year-round, and you might benefit from having less people around in late August/early September, than you would for a Halloween visit. Salem gets quite congested on Halloween.

May the two of you have a great visit, regardless of when and exactly where. Cheers.

Hi Velocityboy007, we%26#39;ve decided that we are definately going for Carnival and the lovely organisers have kindly emailed the dates for 2010 so we%26#39;re now trying to decide on where to stay in Ptown and Boston.

As it%26#39;s a special trip we%26#39;re prepared to spend a bit more and are looking for somewhere wth nice water views and above all clean. Thats why we had thought about Dyer%26#39;s...they have balconies onto the beach and good reviews.

If anyone knows of a similar property we%26#39;d love to hear from you.

Thanks again for replies
