Will swimming be allowed at Lighthouse Beach in Chatham?

Wow! I know I am a couple of months late with this news, but hopefully, in the last few months, the town has come to some kind of resolution to provide supervision at this popular, but deadly beach. Does anyone have any information about lifeguards etc.? Fussy? Have you heard anything from your connections in Chatham?

This is old news...I posted this a few months back when we were writing about CBI changing ownership and the closing of Nickerson Fish, etc...

Last I heard, they were trying to make arrangements to allow safe swimming. They were talking about a variety of strategies. I didn%26#39;t read this article..what%26#39;s the new bottom line?

yellowbird: That article is from Jan. 15th.

Last I knew, the town was providing protection in the water off the point and signs on the beach to warn bathers when the chop and rip became dangerous.

I don%26#39;t remember if they were providing lifeguards on the beach...I don%26#39;t think so.

I%26#39;ve never promoted this beach for swimming. There%26#39;s quite a drop from shore and the undertow can be fierce.

It%26#39;s a great beach for sunbathing and walking though, and close to town. The views here are stunning.

I know it is old news...but it was new to me! We have always enjoyed visiting the Fish pier and then taking in the sights at this beach but we have never been in the water because they never had life guards and the parking was just too difficult. I happened to come across this article and just KNEW that you would know all about it. I have not kept up on the goings on in Chatham since, as you know, we prefer to stay on the outer cape. Still, I hope the town can resolve this safety issue and provide life guards for the areas that are manageable for swimming. If you get any new info from your extensive network in Chatham I would be most interested! Thanks.

yeah. right. okee-dokee.

In the meantime, you can always check in online at the Cape Cod Times website for all kinds of information re: all the Cape towns! :)
