REALLY need your help guys, I have a relocation question!

I was offered a job as a full time server in Vinyard Haven at a new grill restaurant located in the downtown area.

I know that servers at established restaurants make out like bandits but this restaurants meals range between 15-25 dollars and seats only around 50 tables.

My rent is going to be 900 a month, and I would probably be able to work a second job if I had to. My goal in going down to the Vinyard besides the wonderful views and people is ultimately to be able to save up at least 3 thousand dollars over the 4 months I will definately be there.

So for those of you who are servers or who know servers is it reasonable to assume that working full time (10 shifts) that I could expect to make at least the 500 dollars a week that it would require for me to be able to save up at least 3 thousand dollars with the help of a second job or am I thinking too big??

I 4got to tell you guys that I need to make a decision in 48 hours on this so any advice would be extremely helpful. Thanks.

Depends on the restaurant. There are no new restaurants going into the downtown, Main St, so is this one on the water? Possibly at the former Mediterranean location? Also heard that a Thai restaurant is going into VH. 50 tables is big - are you sure it%26#39;s not 50 seats? You have to factor in that Vineyard Haven does not sell alcohol. That%26#39;s big when you miss out on the tip percentage it could bring. Oak Bluffs or Edgartown are the places to work for an evening restaurant job if you want to make a lot of money. The MV Chamber of Commerce has a %26#39;One Stop Job Shop%26#39; with job listings. If you%26#39;re working two jobs and do a great job, you could make the 3k. Mocha Motts coffee shop just lost a couple workers, so may need help. They%26#39;re in both VH and OB and stay very busy. Could be an early morning gig.

Hope this helps. Come back with any other questions. Some restaurants sound good, but don%26#39;t pull in the biz to make the big $. There are plenty that do, so choose wisely.

Yes that%26#39;s the one. I have a few 2nd jobs to pick from too but I would hope to be able to pull 500 a week at least from working this job full time, so if you don%26#39;t think that is realistic let me know. Thanks.

During July and esp. August, you%26#39;ll be busy. How much you pull in depends on how good the restaurant is. Like I mentioned, without alcohol to pad your tip percentage, you%26#39;ll not do as well as in Oak Bluffs or Edgartown. All restaurants are hiring for the summer. If you%26#39;re going to be on the island through September, you should have an easy time finding a job. I don%26#39;t see this restaurant as being a big money maker.

Housing is the toughest obstacle here. Once you have that, a job is easy to find. Get here early, apply to multiple places and follow up.

Cool I hope May 11th is early enough, I already have housing.
