Wedding Advice

You and your 15 closest friends could have a great wedding for $15K. Not what you meant? You would have to provide a lot more information for anybody to provide a real answer for you, but I have to tell you this is probably not the place to do that. The good news is that you can have a nice wedding anywhere if you%26#39;re creative enough. Good luck!

Wedding Advice

How many people do you plan to invite and what time of year were you planning on marrying? Your budget may be just fine if you%26#39;re planning a smaller wedding (off-season or during the shoulder seasons may also be more cost effective times).

Try to send CapeMermaid a private message...she%26#39;ll be able to offer you some good recommendations for local wedding/party planners.

Something to get you started:

Check out the Captain Linnell House in Orleans:

I am sorry for not giving enough information. The plan is approximately 50 people. We are not looking for anything fancy in regards to ceremony. A nice park or on the beach would be nice and a decent reception....

Hi there Matt,

So, if that amount doesn%26#39;t include the dress...lol...then you are talking about around $300. per head for the reception. Of course your $$$ will stretch further if you are there in off-season but fall is not off-season for weddings on the Cape and Spring could be too iffy weather wise.

But don%26#39;t give up. It is certainly worth calling around and see what you can find. As inspiration I%26#39;ll mention that when we got married I thought of chartering a Lake (Michigan) cruiser. When I talked to the co. rep. he told me that he could only give me a full ship charter discount during Mem.Day or Labor Day weekends. Why, I don%26#39;t know but I was only considering those two times. It was really reasonable. They did most of the wedding planning and friends who were guests still say it was the most fun wedding they ever attended and they have their own photos taken up on the top deck with the beautiful Chicago skyline behind them to remember it by.

I%26#39;m going to check on somethings for you this week and I sent off an e-mail to Cape Cod Life magazine asking them to advise which issue (which month) is their wedding issue. Then (or now if you want to look on your own) you can go to your local library and check that out. At least at our library you can check out magazines.

Also, you can go back through the old posts on this board and find minivanmomof2. She no longer posts on this board but is still active. Send her a private message if you%26#39;d like to know who can marry you on the sand. She recently had a renewal ceremony and, hopefully, she has info that could help you with your %26#39;official%26#39; wedding vows.

Do you have a particular year and month in mind? Would the guests be local or would they need accommodations? Are you planning to remain on the Cape for your honeymoon?

Congratulations to you as you embark on your future.

Hi Matt: I think with the proper planning, you can hold a great reception for $300.00 pp. (or close to it). I%26#39;ve sent you a private message with more information; have fun planning!

Hi Matt,

First, congratulations! As Capecodcharlie and FussyGuest have said, you should be fine with your budget and will have lots of options.

Just wanted to chime in with some ideas. We attended a wedding at the Captain Linnell House about five years ago and it was lovely. Outdoor ceremony in gazebo, reception in dining rooms and dancing in reception room. Think you have to do it between 12 and 5 (they are open to the public for dinner).

The sister of the bride of that wedding had her wedding right on the tidal flats in Eastham the following year (we weren%26#39;t invited) with a wedding dinner at the Barley Neck Inn (when it was more upscale dining).

I%26#39;ve seen weddings taking place at the windwill in Orleans overlooking the Town Cove and they appear to then go to the Orleans Inn for their reception.

Ocean Edge is another lovely spot.

And how about Sea Pines Inn in Brewster? Not on the water but a lovely old inn with a beautiful veranda.

Would think that the Cape Cod Life wedding issue would be a big help.

Have fun!

Greetings!

A great source for party planning is Jenn Mentzer, a liflong Cape Codder with oodles of contact for tents, sites, etc. She is an amazing chef and caterer. Tell her your budget and watch her work her magic. http://www.servicediva.com/about.html

I would start there first as she may be able to help you get a better handle on costs.

The biggest problem with any outdoor ceremony on Cape Cod is weather. That said, on my big day we had a 73% chance of rain, and not a drop fell. You do need a back-up plan for an indoor ceremony. I was invited to 2 Cape weddings last summer that were ';called'; for weather, and there was no back-up plan. oops! Think ahead!

You also want to lock in an officiant and photographer asap. For an all faith based (Unitarian) officiant, you cannot go wrong with Rev. Faith Lavender http://www.capecodceremonies.com/.

For photography, try Amy Dykes: http://www.capecodphotography.com/

Both may be booked for the summer, but worth a try.

Lastly, book for mid-late September. To marry on Cape Cod any earlier in the summer is nuts. Your costs will be too high, and the weather can be downright humid and sticky.

Hope that helps!

Enjoy.

Treats Catering has a lovely house and can do something in your budget. Or, they can cater off site. I like their professionalism and I love their food. You can make it work it just mean a different kind of menu. Someone I know had a wedding at Grey%26#39;s Beach in Yarmouthport. There is a pavillion and the sunsets at Bass Hole are incredible.
