Newton versus Natick Hotel

I have narrowed down our hotel choice to 2 areas:

the Hotel Indigo in Newton, versus one of several hotels in Natick.

We need to get to Northeastern University and would like to take the train in. The Indigo is within walking distance to the Riverside station, but the hotel is a bit above my price range. If I were to stay in the Natick area, the hotels there are about $50 cheaper per night. Would it be easy to take a taxi from Natick to the Riverside station? How about on the way back in the evening? Are there usually taxis waiting outside the station or do I need to call for one? How much would the fares be? Thank you in advance.

Natick is really meant for people with automobiles. Any ';savings'; you get by staying in Natick will easily be wiped out by taking taxis to Riverside. Stay at the Hotel Indigo, even if it%26#39;s a little higher. As an altenative, you might want to try the Midtown Hotel in Boston, which usually has lower than normal rates and is just a short walk to Northeastern.

Staying closer to Riverside will be much easier so I%26#39;d go for Indigo. If you head to Natick you%26#39;ll not only have to hassle with taxis but also traffic which will waste your precious time.

The Indigo would be much more convenenient. Taking taxis between Natick and Newton would eat up your savings in a heartbeat.

Plus, if you stay at the Indigo, you%26#39;ll only be a few miles from the TripAdvisor headquarters :-).

Thanks all for your helpful advice. Sorry I should have been clearer in my original post. We will have a car and were thinking of parking the car at a hotel and taking the train in to visit the city and Northeastern Univ. for only 1 day.

From what I gathered via the web, parking at the Riverside station may be problematic during the day, which is why I was asking about taxi%26#39;s to the station and back. What would be the fare each way from Natick to Riverside and back?

Also, are taxi%26#39;s readily available outside the Riverside station? We were thinking of going to see an 8 pm showing of the Blue Man group which probably means getting back around 11 pm. Would it be safe? and would getting a taxi at that time be easy from Riverside station?

I think you should plan to use your car to get to and from Riverside. It%26#39;s a fairly long cab ride from there to Natick, and while I%26#39;m sure you can readily make arrangements to get cabs, it would be rather expensive, and I really don%26#39;t think you would get shut out of parking at the T station. The lot at Riverside is huge, and there%26#39;s also parking at Woodland, the next inbound stop.

The area is very safe, and that should not be a concern with regard to the Blue Man Group show.

If you do decide to go the taxi route, I recommend that when you get the cab from the hotel to the station, you discuss your return trip with the driver. Tell hm/her when you expect to arrive back at Riverside, and get a number to call.
