Suggestions for trip to Massachusetts

Hi,

We are two couples in our forties and will be visiting family in Niagara Falls, ONT.

We plan to leave Niagara on Monday May 18th and head for Cape Cod %26amp; Boston.

We would like to be back in Toronto on the Saturday afternoon.

We would appreciate help with a route and advice on places to stay, sights etc.

Thank you

Vince.

Sorry I should have mentioned that we will have a rental car for the trip.

Suggestions for trip to Massachusetts

Hi, Vince - It would helpful to know your budget and what you would like to see - there is so much here to see: history, culture, restaurants, sports. Here are some ideas to get you started.

I would get on Rt. 90 east in NY and come in through the Berkshires in Massachusetts. Rt.90 is the Massachusetts Turnpike (or MASSPIKE in local terms) You should spend at least one night in the Berkshires - get off at either exit 1 or 2 and consider visiting Great Barrington or Lenox, both beautiful towns with great shops, restaurants and attractions. Here is a great link: http://www.berkshireweb.com/

The Mass Pike will take you straight into Boston in about 2 hours - a few things along the way if you wanted to spend the day - there is a Six Flags amusement park in Agawam, about 40 minutes south of the Berkshires. There is also the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield www.hoophall.com (both accessed off exit 5) About an hour further is Old Sturbridge Village - a ';living history museum'; focusing on early New England life http://www.osv.org/ Come into Boston, spend 2 nights. Popular areas to stay in - around Fanueil Hall/Quincy Market or Copley Square. You can look here at TA for reviews. From Boston, you can go to the Cape - about an 1 hour to 1.5 hour away midweek, non rush hour time. You can spend a night or two there before heading back. Falmouth is a nice place to stay at the beginning of the Cape, Dennis another good location mid-Cape. Another good overall site: www.massvacation.com

Hi Kendrick,

Thanks for the suggestions and links. As for the budget - I enjoy the champagne lifestyle unfortunately I have a beer budget but don%26#39;t mind the treating myself especially when on holiday.

We would be more interested in seeing historical and cultural sights, not big into shopping or boozing.

Also interested in visiting Martha%26#39;s Vineyard, How do we get there? and how much time will we need?

Driving times are 9 hours from Niagara Falls to Boston and another 1.5 to 2.5 hours to Cape Cod, depending on vacation. For Martha%26#39;s Vineyard, you need to take a ferry from Falmouth on Cape Cod, so you would need to add that time on as well. So each way, it%26#39;s a full day of travel just to Boston. So you have only 4 days to be able to see anything, so maybe staying in Boston makes the most sense. Lots of history there.......

Thanks for that, I think we might base ourselves in Boston and visit other places from there.
