ferry from rockport

couple visiting Boston in July and have heard that parking and driving in Boston can be crazy. Has anyone taken a ferry from Rockport? Or any other ideas...Will be traveling from York Beach, Maine.

Thanks!!

Do you mean Rockport MA? I cannot find any ferry listings for Rockport (or nearby Gloucester).

The closest ferry is Salem MA, but parking near the Salem ferry is not plentiful.

There%26#39;s commuter rail from Rockport. Cape Ann is gorgeous and a great place to visit, but it%26#39;s not a convenient base for touring Bosotn.

What is your destination after leaving York Beach? Do you plan to check into a hotel? Do you plan to spend more than a day IN Boston?

You can always park at a subway station and take the T into downtown. Parking would be about $5-$7 for the day at most stations north of Boston such as Wonderland and Wellington.

Give us a bit more info and we%26#39;ll be able to offer more definitive advice.

Are planning just a day in Boston. Thanks

I%26#39;m sorry to be a pain, but I still am unclear about your plans. Are you going from York Beach to Boston or from Rockport to Boston? Where are you going after Boston? The answers to these questions will help us give the best advice.

We are staying in York Beach and just looking for the best place to park and visit Boston for a day.

Would rather not have to drive in Boston! Thanks

You could drive to Salem and take the ferry. I don%26#39;t know about the parking there.

Another alternative would be to drive to a T (subway) station and park and take the T in. From York Beach Wellington Station in Medford might make sense. It%26#39;s probably about an hour and 15 minute drive. There is a big parking garage and outdoor lots. It%26#39;s probably something like $5 a day. From what I%26#39;ve heard the outside lots don%26#39;t always completely fill up on weekday mornings. If you are going on a weekend you might consider driving right into Boston, parking rates and traffic will not be so bad.

Another thing to think about is the Amtrak Downeaster train. I think the closest station for you would be in Wells Maine, probably less than a half hour or so from York Beach. There is free parking there. This would be a pretty stress-free way to go. The train would take you to North Station in Boston. You would just have to plan your day around the train schedule, make sure you get the train back in time. You might have to take a pretty late train, but what the heck, you%26#39;re on vacation.
