Beach - North of Boston Area in June

Hi there,

I am beginning to plan a New England road trip for this June and I am looking at the different communities north of Boston as a way to spend a day or two at the beach. Are there particular towns that are nicer than others? We are looking for somewhere to enjoy the ocean/scenery, but great food, arts, etc. are always welcome as well! For example, wondering what Gloucester, Newburyport, Portsmouth are like - or somewhere else?

Thanks - I will look in the forums! A quick follow up question...if I only have time for one, which is the nicest?

Its always a matter of personal opinion but my personal favorite is Newburyport because I love the Plum Island nature preserve. Gloucester is a bit more, well, not upscale compared to the others. Its a working class town but is still quite picturesque. Add Rockport to this list, same area, very popular, very pretty. Keep in mind that all these towns are crowded on summer weekends so plan ahead for accomodations. I think Portsmouth is actually in New Hampshire isn%26#39;t it? I went there once but don%26#39;t remember much so if there are no search hits in Mass, go to the New Hampshire section.
