We%26#39;re thinking of visiting Boston next month, since it has been a while. Originally, we were thinking of Staying at the Hilton Boston Financial District since we stayed there when it was a Wyndham and we like the location. However, Marriott Rewards just made us an offer we can%26#39;t refuse LOL! So...we are looking at what is available on the dates we%26#39;re interested in and saw that these 2 hotels have the best rates:
Residence Inn Tudor Wharf
The Renaissance
From what I can see the Residence Inn is actually in Charlestown? And the Renaissance is practically in Southie?
So, location-wise, which (if either) do you recommend? We%26#39;re looking at things like access to the T and proximity to downtown and the North End.
Thanks for any advice!
Which Marriott?
I would choose the Charestown location. You are right next door to the USS Constitution, in the shadow of the Bunker Hill Monument and just a short walk and you are in the North End. The T is easily accessable at North Station which is also within easy walking distance.
Which Marriott?
I am not familiar with Tudor Wharf. This area to The North End is not far.
I know the Renaissance and staying here would be nice. It is the Seaport Area and on the water. The walk to Faneuil Hall is 10-15 minutes. I think there is a water taxi to the North End.
There are several restaurants and one pretty good place to have an inexpensive breakfast.
Neither is my favorite location, although I would choose the Tudor Wharf over the Renaissance, which is in an up and coming area but just not yet ready for prime time (it actually IS in South Boston).
If you can get any of the other Marriott properties, I would much prefer those. These include the Marriott Long Wharf, Custom House and Copley Place.
There%26#39;s also a water shuttle from near the USS Constitution.
The Tudor Wharf Residence Inn also offers a water taxi stop adjacent to the hotel. It is next to the Freedom Trail and it is about a 10-15 minute walk to the North End or to the North Station T stop.

Good morning SueFee, How are you these days? If it were me, I%26#39;d stay at the Residence Inn @ Tudor Wharf, hands down! My sister %26amp; her husband stayed there during the beanpot hockey games one weekend at the Fleet Center/Garden a few weeks ago and absolutely loved the location for getting in to the Garden %26amp; the North End as well as downtown Boston, they said they%26#39;d definitely stay there again, that%26#39;s how much they loved it there. Where the weather is starting to be so nice, it%26#39;s ideal for the water taxi %26amp; walking all over that part of the City, you%26#39;ll really like it there I bet. They said they had everything they needed right in the room too as far as kitchen stuff was concerned it worked out all around for them that way, then dining at Max %26amp; Dylan%26#39;s Kitchen %26amp; Bar only a few yards away was pretty convenient for them they said. By the time you get here the Harborwalk Cafe will be open, you%26#39;ll see it in the marina.
I stayed at a Renaissance Marriott Hotel in Providence, Rhode Island this past fall %26amp; thought the rooms were absolutely gorgeous! I%26#39;m hearing the waterfront%26#39;s Renaissance rooms are just like that one, they%26#39;re supposed to be incredible.
I personally think it%26#39;s about the same distance to get in to the North End on both sides of town, no matter where you end up staying. I prefer being along the Freedom Trail where the Residence Inn is located. Wherever you end up, just wear comfortable walking shoes that%26#39;s all.
You%26#39;ll have Salvatore%26#39;s right around the corner from the Renaissance Marriot as well as Legal%26#39;s Test Kitchen %26amp; The Daily Catch in the Moakley Federal Courthouse rotunda complex. Sebastian%26#39;s Cafe %26amp; Morton%26#39;s Steakhouse is also down thru that whole waterfront area. There%26#39;s a bridge connecting the financial district with the waterfront, near the Barking Crab restaurant so you%26#39;ll be in downtown Boston in no time, especially where the weather has been so much warmer %26amp; where you%26#39;re arriving next month, it%26#39;ll be even warmer by then.
As you know the Seaport District is at the heart of Boston%26#39;s waterfront %26amp; situated on Boston%26#39;s Harbor Walk system. You%26#39;ll be down by Anthony%26#39;s Pier 4 area with the Yankee Lobster.
If you end up staying on the waterfront try to go to Salvatore%26#39;s Restaurant located at 225 Northern Ave., even if you just go there for a drink. Here%26#39;s their site to check it out:

If you end up staying at the Residence Inn @ Tudor Wharf, you%26#39;ll have the Navy Yard Bistro at night within walking distance from this Inn, it%26#39;s very good there! A hint for you, it%26#39;s located behind the Store 24 . Then another place located in that area is Max %26amp; Dylan%26#39;s Kitchen %26amp; bar. Then The Tavern on the Water is in the marina, Olives is at City Square as well as the Ironside Grille. The Warren Tavern located at 2 Pleasant Street is great:

There%26#39;s a few good restaurants on Main Street too in Charlestown, one of them got the Best of Boston recently for 2008, it%26#39;s ';Tangierino%26#39;s';. Go to their site to see their menu etc:
www.tangierino.com
Paolo%26#39;s Trattoria is one of my favorite spots:

So SueFee if you want access to the ';T'; North Station is right there across from the Fleet Center on Causeway Street %26amp; around the corner from the footbridge that will take you right to the Residence Inn @ Tudor Wharf and for proximity to downtown and the North End, it%26#39;s ideal, you%26#39;d be yards away from your favorite restaurant La Summa%26#39;s on Fleet Street.
I%26#39;d go with the Residence Inn @ Tudor Wharf if it were me, enjoy your visit to Boston! Hope you have a wonderful time wherever you end up staying.
Give us a trip report when you get back, let us know what you decide!
Just my two cents again!
Thank you, everyone! This is all very helpful. Now, I need to tell my husband that the Residence Inn isn%26#39;t that far from the action.
NoMo---Good to see you posting again! As you know, my husband lived in the Charlestown projects for the first 5 years of his life. I told him that if we stay in the Residence Inn, it would almost be like going home again LOL! Of course, we%26#39;re going to head to La Summa. Thanks for the other restaurant recommendations. We%26#39;re always willing to try new places.
