October visit

My husband and I would like to fly into Boston in mid-October, stay a night or two then drive to a central location outside of Boston to take drives and hikes to see the fall foliage.

Any input as to a town that is centrally located to some great scenery? I have lots more questions but I%26#39;ll start with this one.

Thanks!

There will be foliage everywhere. You%26#39;ll have to be a little more explicit in what else you want to see or do for us to try and pinpoint a town.

Given that I never been there I guess I need to do more research as to what else there is to do before I ask again.

You can start with the ';Things to Do'; Button on the right.

Try the southern areas of New Hampshire and Vermont. Beautiful foliage at that time of Oct and they are both have nice hiking and are a great base to make day trips from.

When would you like to come and how long will you be here. If early in the season, yuo need to go north to find foliage. Later in the season and it will be all around Boston.

If you like to hike, I suggest early October in New Hampshire%26#39;s white mountains. (About 3 - 3.5 hour drive from Boston.) There%26#39;s easy hikes throughout the White Mountain National Forest (Kancamagus Highway) and the New Hampshire state forest. There%26#39;s the spectacular flume gorge with running water, etc, etc.

If you want to stay a little closer to Boston, you could stay in southern New Hampshire and hike up Mt. Monadnock. There are any number of picturesque small towns to drive through and stay in.

Thank you for all the helpful input.
