We are planning a trip to Boston over the July 4th weekend. We will arrive 7/3 and head home 7/7. I will be traveling w/my 13 yr old son %26amp; his friend. We do not have to stay in the city; I am fine w/staying at a hotel within walking distance to the MBTA. I would like the walk to be 15 min or less %26amp; in a safe area since it is likely we will be returning after dark. I would like the hotel to have a pool %26amp; include breakfast. Those are negotiable if the rate is right.
I have looking into the Best Western-Adams Inn %26amp; it seemed perfect but a few reviewers indicated the neighborhood was iffy. Would like someone%26#39;s opinion on mom w/2 kids walking from MBTA to hotel at night.
Also, aside from the normal sites %26amp; destinations of Boston, will there be special events/activities going on for the 4th that I would either need to plan for or make reservations? I am assuming there has to be an awesome fireworks display.
I appreciate any %26amp; all advice %26amp; suggestions you can give. Thank you!
July 4th Trip to BostonYes, there is a HUGE 4th event at the Esplanade, which is a big park along the Charles River so the city will be VERY crowded. The event is great but I%26#39;m suggesting that you need to get your reservations, even if only close to the city, taken care of right away as the city fills up and not just with locals. I would stick with Quincy, which I assume the BW is in, maybe Braintree which is the last stop on the MBTA red line and may be more comfortable for you neighbhorhood wise. Otherwise, consider taking the MBTA communter rail in from one of the surrounding towns like Dedham, Needham, Norwood, Beverly, Salem, etc. HOpefully others here will make hotel recommendations to you.
July 4th Trip to BostonThere are always events in Boston for the 4th. If I remember correctly, they turn around the Constitution that day. Also as already said, the Esplanade is the place to be for the Boston Pops concert which I will take a wild guess will end with the 1812 overture and real cannons being fired. Here is a link from last years concert. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvANSI-8ptI. You can find alot more on Youtube. You do need to plan the day, get your picnic basket, bring your water (or other beverages) etc as the place is packed. There can be more than 300000 people be in attendance.

Hi, snowflake
I am not here to comment on the neighborhood surrounding the Adams Inn because I don%26#39;t know. I%26#39;m sure someone else more familiar with the surrounding area will let you know.
I do, however, want to inform you that you could stay at the Howard Johnsons in the city for $160 per night. It%26#39;s been recently refurbished and has been getting very good reviews. It%26#39;s right in the shadow of Fenway Park, which I%26#39;m sure the boys would love. It will make getting around the city a breeze compared to relying on a hotel shuttle or walking to/from the nearest T station by staying outside the city. I%26#39;m not sure how tight your budget is, but that is a fantastic rate for Boston on the 4th of July weekend. I don%26#39;t believe it includes free breakafast but there is a restaurant on site. It does include free internet. Just wanted you to pass that along to you.
Yes, the city will be alive for the 4th of July weekend. Boston is a top 3 destination in the U.S. for it%26#39;s 4th. of July festivities %26amp; fireworks. There will be no shortage of things to see and do while your visiting. The main event taking place is Harborfest. I%26#39;ll leave you the link to browse through. I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll all have a great time.

I don%26#39;t know much about the quality of the Best Western-Adams, but the location is not great. It is located right near a bridge/highway overpass and the T is not that close by. I think walking to and from the T at night would probably be safe, but I don%26#39;t think you will see many people walking around the area. I think the location of that hotel would be better if you were using a car. I%26#39;ll try to think of some other similar hotels that might be located in a better place.
I appreciate everyone%26#39;s help %26amp; the information you have provided. I have not yet settled on a hotel. The suggestion for the HoJo near Fenway was a good one; however they have no available rooms w/2 beds.
I am open to any suggestion from those of you that have been there or live nearby. Thanks!
