Cheap Hotel DT or easy train access to Convention Ctr

I%26#39;m scheduled for a conference at the Waterfront Convention Ctr May 5-8. With the economy the way it is, my company has said that I can still go to the convention, but can no longer stay where the convention is being held to save hotel costs. I know nothing about Boston, and am trying to find something for under $150/night that is either walkable to the convention ctr, or in a decent neighborhood that has relatively easy train access. Thanks much for your assistance.

Cheap Hotel DT or easy train access to Convention Ctr

I%26#39;m not sure what you mean by the ';waterfront convention center';. We have the Bayside Expo Center, the Mass Convention and expo center on Summer St (also consider the %26#39;seaport district%26#39; or %26#39;South Boston Waterfront%26#39; and we have the Hynes convention center.

What is the exact name of your convention center and what hotel do the convention planners recommend?

With that info, perhaps we%26#39;ll be able to help you.

I%26#39;m assuming this is the Main Convention Center in South Boston. All the hotels near there will be new and are likely to be over the cost target. These include the Marriott Renaissance, Seaport hotel and Westin Convention Center. No other hotels will really be walkable from there. The best bet after that are hotels on the Red Line Subway (which gets you at least to South Station). That includes the Omni Parker House and John Jeffries House. Outside of Town is the Marriott in Braintree.

That%26#39;s what I thought Alan, only there%26#39;s nothing for those dates. That%26#39;s what threw me ...

I don%26#39;t usually recommend this hotel, but it may for you: The Holiday Inn Express on Boston Avenue. It%26#39;s in a lousy neighborhood, but only a few minute walk to a Red Line Subway Station. You could take the subway there, perhaps, and take a taxi back, since I%26#39;m a little hesitant on walking near the hotel late at night. However, the price should be right and it%26#39;s actually not too far from the Convention Center.

Staying under $150 including taxes and fees is going to be very tough to do even outside of the city. I did see that you can get the best Western Hotel Tria in Cambridge on those dates for about $200 per night including taxes and fees. This is walkable to the Red Line Alewife T Station. It%26#39;s probably close to a half mile along a busy street, but it is a safe area. And, I know this hotel has been renovated within the last few years.

Although being near any subway line would work OK, the red line is the most convenient for you. Maybe someone else here can recommend some of the south-of-Boston hotels that would be convenient for you. I am not so familiar with that area.

If I were you, if you can find a place for a little more I would consider personally swallowing the extra $150 or to stay someplace reasonable instead of staying in a dump or an unsafe and/or inconvenient area. Maybe your company will take pity on you when they see that $150 is really not doable. If not, maybe you can make it up on other places in your expense report!

Also, try Hotwire or Priceline for $150 and see what happens. The exact neighborhood you are in is not extremely critical as Boston is compact and easy to get around by foot and subway. The ';Financial District'; might be a good place to try.

Yep, did a brief search and you will have a few options. At this point and within this budget, it looks like Hotwire/Priceline will be your best bet, as mentioned above.

This is for a May 5th checkin and May 8th checkout, correct?

I%26#39;ll leave it up to the locals to tell you whether each is convenient to the red line, etc.

On Hotwire, there are the following options:

Radisson for $88/night

Nine Zero for $146/night. With taxes and fees this works out to be $165/night, but is very luxurious.

Both get stellar reviews here and I think you would happy with either.

Also what I think is the Club Quarters for $107/night.

Check betterbidding.com to match up amenites, star rating, and zone to know with a reasonable certainty which hotel you are buying prior to purchase.

wow, thanks everyone for all your suggestion. Apologies for not clarifying earlier - my conference is either at the Boston Convention Center on Summer St, or at the Westin Waterfront Hotel where I was originally scheduled to stay before my boss nixed it b/c of cost. I%26#39;m kind of thinking priceline or hotwire may be my best option. Does anyone have any opinion about the airport hotels? Some of those show up in that price range, but i%26#39;m unaware of the logistics as far as getting to/from the conference and whether or not there would be any issues in the evenings (as i%26#39;ll likely be out and about in the evenings hopefully enjoying some Boston food/drink). Flying in 5/5, and out Friday, 5/8. Again, thanks

The Westin is right next to the convention center.

All of those locations would be fine. They would be fine at night, too. The Nine Zero is right near the Park St. T stop and a short ride to S. Station. Club Quarters is in the Financial District, not too lively at night, but safe enough. Walking down to S. Station would be easy. The Radisson is over by Park Square, a little farther from S. Station, but nothing too bad. As I mentioned it%26#39;s very easy to get around Boston and anywhere you would go as a tourist is generally safe. Subways are busy and safe at night, too.

As far as logistics. S. Station is the closest subway stop to the convention center, but you can take an underground bus (Silver Line) to the center from S. Station or take a cab. If the weather is nice, it%26#39;s not too bad of a walk either.

For location and quality of hotel I would go with Nine Zero, if your budget can swing it.

Most of the ';Airport'; Hotels are really not at the Airport, so are not near any T Stations. I would stick with what%26#39;s been suggested already.
