Cape Cod Mid May with 1 year old

Hello Cape Cod Forum. My husband and I are travelling from Scotland with our 1 year old and plan to stay in Cape Cod for a week mid May. Could someone please recommend the most suitable town for us and any hints on rentals or hotels that are toddler friendly would be great. We love to be near nice resturants and to have somewhere to walk around, a beach and /or pool would be added bonus.

Hi, The town of Brewster is a quaint town to stay in and not far from everything, check out tripadviser for b%26amp;b%26#39;s. I hate to tell you this but in mid May you will not need a pool. Weather warm enough for swimming does not start until mid June if we are lucky. But The time is right for walking the beaches and outdoor lunches. Check weather underground and hit the tab trip planner to get the weather history of any location..Good luck Joe A.

Hello, we live in Canada (southern Ontario) and have been going to the cape for years (30+) and really love the place. It%26#39;s not as nice as it was at first, but it is still pretty good. You must really watch out where you stay, alot of the motels are starting to age and have been taken over by ';newer'; owners who are not as clean and tidy as I would like.

Two place%26#39;s I would reccomend are ';A Beach Breeze Inn'; on Route 28 in West Harwich. It%26#39;s owned and run by a nice couple who live on site. It%26#39;s a very nicely run place. Oh yes, they call it an Inn but its really a motel, parking in front of the room. It costs about us$75 to $85 a night. Their website is www.beachbreezeinn.net

The other place is ';The Earl of Sandwich'; on Route 6A near Sandwich. Its in a very quiet country setting on one of the most scenic roads in Mass.

It costs about the same as the Beach Breeze.

It%26#39;s website is www.earlofsandwich.com/

Neither of these places are on the seafront, I won%26#39;t pay the price for oceanfront accoms.

A good place to have seafood is called ';Seafood Sams';, its counter service but very reasonable prices and very child friendly.

I hope that helps, if you have more quest%26#39;s. get in touch.

I will second the recommendation of Brewster as a good base for your touring but you should be aware that it doesn%26#39;t really have a %26#39;town center%26#39; per se. And even though you won%26#39;t want to swim outdoors in mid-May, there are quite a few hotels and motels on the Cape that have indoor pools and you may want to consider (though don%26#39;t know if they will let you take a baby in).

One idea is to stay at Ocean Edge (although it%26#39;s a bit pricey). They have one bedroom villas that might be a nice option with your child. You can prepare some meals in the unit as well as have a washer/dryer. And they have an indoor pool for hotel guests. It%26#39;s in Brewster. It%26#39;s also very close to good restaurants and the bike trail (which would be lots of fun...your child can ride in a trailer you pull in the back).

Enjoy!

I always recommend the Tern Inn in West Harwich (www.theterninn.com) for anyone with a toddler, because they have a small playground for the little ones and large grounds with trees and flowers where a toddler can run around. They do have a pool, but as a previous poster noted, it will almost certainly be too cool in May to do any swimming.

But West Harwich does not have the type of commercial district you%26#39;re looking for, if you want several restaurants in walking distance. There is a place called the Weatherdeck within walking distance that serves hamburgers, ice cream, etc., but you would have to drive (although just a short way) to reach any nice restaurants.

If you want to be within walking distance of more shops and restaurants, you might check out Chatham as an alternative.

My vote is for Dennisport - it is a very family friendly beach community and has several restaurants from casual fare to fine dining within walking distance from many hotels and cottages. The beaches are great for little ones with no big waves and the northside beaches of Dennis have great little tidal pools for kids to play in. The neighborhood is nice to walk and there is a nice little playground in the center.

I have sent you a PM with lots of things to do here

Where ever you stay enjoy your time here on the Cape
