We%26#39;re staying in Chatham the week of July 4th. We have a 6 and 11 years old sons. Interested in finding good places to eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Places in Chatham to eat breakfast would be helpful. Also, we%26#39;ll be traveling around the Cape so we could use suggestions for lunch/dinner around the Cape. Thanks for everyones ideas!
Restaurant Suggestions?
Breakfast in Chatham: In West Chatham near Barn Hill Road on the way to Harding%26#39;s Beach in the %26#39;Shop Ahoy%26#39; plaza on rte. 28 you%26#39;ll find Larry%26#39;s PX. It%26#39;s a local breakfast place where fishermen go to eat early in the a.m. (I doubt you%26#39;ll be there early enough to see them there though!)
Downtown Chatham has several bakeries, coffee shops on Main St. where you can have a full breakfast or a bagel, scone, etc.
There%26#39;s also a breakfast place on Depot Road (can%26#39;t remember the name right now) and another on Crowell Road. (Chatham Bakery and Cafe).
There are SO many restaurants up here, it%26#39;d be impossible to list them all. What kind of food do you enjoy, what%26#39;s the budget?
Restaurant Suggestions?
For breakfast....something reasonably priced...bagels, eggs, pancakes, waffles in the am. A place close to Chatham Bars would be good. For lunch/dinner we%26#39;ll be traveling around the Cape so any suggestions that way would be great! Thanks!
For a special meal (depending upon who%26#39;s doing the cooking) try Chatham Bars Inn for breakfast. It%26#39;ll cost you though. From CBI, you can drive to any of the places I%26#39;ve mentioned, the furthest away would be Larry%26#39;s.
Ocean House in Dennisport is often suggested here.
The Squire Restaurant and the Impudent Oyster in downtown Chatham are local favorites that have had great reviews in the past (and a few uneven performances lately).
Pisces, in South Chatham is consistently wonderful. Some people here like Marley%26#39;s (I%26#39;m not a fan but it%26#39;s always busy).
Pate%26#39;s, on 28 in West Chatham, is kind of an old fuddy duddy place, but I like the retro feel and their red meat offerings are really good.
I really love the poolside Grill at Chatham Bars Inn (CBI) for apps. and drinks. It%26#39;s a fun place and there%26#39;s often live music there. Casual atmosphere but with valet parking (it Is CBI, after all!).
Toward Orleans from Chatham on rte. 28, the restaurants at the Wequassett Resort are worth a look. 28 Atlantic is a standout there.
Please do a search on this forum for the %26#39;lobster roll%26#39; and %26#39;breakfast%26#39; threads. The locals and regulars here really outdid themselves with offered choices. You can also do a search for %26#39;special occasion restaurants%26#39;.
We had an excellent meal at the Wild Goose Tavern (Wayside Inn, Chatham) last week, and I believe they serve brunch on the weekends, too. A less-expensive breakfast option is Dino%26#39;s, on Route 28 in Harwichport. Try the blueberry pancakes!
Hi Pastiche! You had a good visit then! I%26#39;m glad to hear the Wild Goose Tavern was good. What did everyone have?
Another choice for breakfast is the Lighthouse Cafe in Harwichport on rte. 28 right across the street from the Millstore and next to the Post Office. Really good omelets and the service is fantastic. One of the servers working there heads the local Youth Services programs (including the before and after school programs) and she%26#39;s a great provider of local news and events.
I e-mailed this thread to my son who%26#39;s opined that it needs some additional suggestions tailored towards elementary school kids. So here you go:
** When my son was those ages, he loved having breakfast or lunch at the little airport%26#39;s cafe, watching the private planes take off and land. I%26#39;ve not eaten there for 2 years so can%26#39;t offer a sound opinion on the current operation, but perhaps others can weigh in.

And while you%26#39;re there, you could splurge on a ';flightseeing'; tour of the Cape; prices are the same, no matter whether it%26#39;s just 1 passenger or a ';full house';. The web page indicates the maximum number of passengers is 3, but may be they will accommodate 2 adults %26amp; 2 kids. I recommend the shorter tour: it%26#39;s a memorable experience, but the longer one might tax their attention span.

** The home-made French-fried onion rings and a sandwich [he always opted for a hot dog or a scallop roll] at Kream %26#39;n%26#39; Kone at 1653 Main St. [a/k/a/ Rt.28], just past George Ryder Rd, the turn-off for the airport. Not that we%26#39;re looking to renew debate on whether the one in Dennisport is better; the Chatham one is simply the one we%26#39;ve always patronized because it%26#39;s closest %26amp; been good enough for us.
** To quote my son, ';anything from Miss Marion%26#39;s, but especially the cinnamon buns and blueberry pie.';

** a root beer float from the A%26amp;W, after a stop at Bud%26#39;s Go Karts in Harwich Port.
** pick up sandwiches at the Lunch Box before heading to Marconi Beach

Hope this is helpful -- and thanks for giving my son %26amp; me a reason tonight to exchange reminisces of happy memories :-)
The A%26amp;W has great hot dogs, too.
My favorite place for breakfast in Chatham is the Old Harbor Bakery, located at 75 Old Harbor Road.
Get there before 9 to avoid the line, and if it%26#39;s a Sunday be aware that Holy Redeemer Church (down the street) has mass at 8, 10 and 11:30, and the Old Harbor Bakery fills to the gills when church is over. Time your visit accordingly.
Old Harbor is cheap and cheerful, regular fare. Not too many tourists - lots of locals.
Further afield, your kids may enjoy a visit to one of the last Drive-Ins in America (http://www.wellfleetcinemas.com/), about 30 minutes from Chatham. We like to grab a pizza from Red Barn Pizza (http://www.theredbarnpizza.com/) down the road and bring it in with us.
Lastly, another Wellfleet establishement that is great for family fare is Moby Dick%26#39;s (http://www.mobydicksrestaurant.com/). I take my son here after a day at Head of the Meadow Beach in Truro (the only National Seashore beach in Truro).
Hope that helps!
Enjoy!
Really appreciate everyone%26#39;s thoughts. Thanks so much! I like the suggestions about places to go in combination with where to eat! Great ideas!
Jeff
Any other suggestions? Food/places to go??
Thanks!
