Nantucket High Speed Ferry

Hello,

I%26#39;ll be taking a one way ferry from Nantucket to Hyannis this summer and it looks like I have two choices: Steamship Authority or Hy-Line. Both have high speed ferries that make the trip in a hour, but Hy-Line is a few dollars more per person.

Does anyone recommend one boat over the other for any reason? I%26#39;ll be travelling with an infant and some luggage if it make a difference.

The two boats are very similar in terms of design, travel times, seating, amenities, etc. The Steamship does have TVs onboard if you can%26#39;t miss the Red Sox game.

If you%26#39;re driving down to Hyannis, I would give a slight edge to Hy-Line because you can drop your bags and then park your car right at their own lots, within easy walking distance of the dock. (During busy periods you need to make a parking reservation in advance.)

I believe the Steamship does have some closer-in parking, but in season you will almost always have to park at a satellite lot that is 5-10 minutes away on foot or by shuttle bus.

Hy-Line also allows people with strollers to pre-board, which is nice on a busy day.

I%26#39;d taken the Hy-Line many times before I located the baby-changing table, but there is indeed one onboard. If I remember correctly, it is in the starboard aft bathroom on the lower level.

(As you%26#39;ll see, I%26#39;d incorrectly implied that only the Steamship has a changing table.)

I%26#39;d vote for the HyLine. We%26#39;ve used it many many times to go to Nantucket. It%26#39;s wonderfully comfortable and, unlike the Steamship Authority%26#39;s high speed ferry, the HyLine doesn%26#39;t break down regularly.

The onsite or very near the site parking is also quite convenient. As a matter of fact, we%26#39;re heading to Nantucket (from Cape Cod) in two weeks for a 3 day get away. Staying at the Wharf Cottages.
