Memorial Day Weekend

We are 6 guys, all about 28-32, are coming to Boston memorial day weekend to see a game at Fenway that saturday. We are staying Saturday to Monday. We just need help on where we should stay and where we can play, lol. We want to party a little sat night after the game and sunday. Where is a good place that is close to Fenway but also close to clubs and bars. Can someone point us in the right direction. What is gonna be good that weekend ? Thanx for your help!

Memorial Day Weekend

bigziggy,

If all of you are looking for a good, no frills hotel in a great location within walking distance to Fenway, look into the Midtown Hotel. This is also a good choice if you plan to drive up here, since parking rates there are $28 per night, a real bargain by Boston standards. It%26#39;s about a 10 minute walk to Fenway and offers easy subway access to hit other spots around Boston. For a more upscale experience, you can look into the Hotel Commonwealth which is right around the corner from Fenway or any hotel in the Copley Square area of the Back Bay. Hotels like the Marriott Copley Place, Westin Copley Place, Copley Square Hotel and Lenox Hotel are all in great locations within walking distance to the park.

There%26#39;s plenty of bars and clubs all around Fenway. There%26#39;s also many more watering holes throughout the Back Bay, around Fanueuil Hall/Quincy Market the area around the Boston Garden.

I%26#39;m sure there will be plenty to keep all of you entertained for your short visit.

Memorial Day Weekend

Should we stay close to Fenway or close to the Bars and Clubs? What do you think is in the middle of the two. Is everything pretty close together? These guys i know have stayed at the doubletree before. Is that close to everything. You can tell we just want to have a drunkin%26#39; good time.

There are bars and clubs all over. What sort of places are you looking for?

You%26#39;re probably better off staying near the bars and clubs, but don%26#39;t worry about it too much. Boston is very compact and easy to get around just about anywhere by subway or walking.

Depends on which one they stayed at. There are 3 in Boston. If they stayed at the Doubletree Downtown, then that one would be fine for getting around Boston. It%26#39;s close to $50 a night to park there if you are bringing a car, if that matters. The other two are not convienent for getting around the city. I still think the Midtown would be a great spot for the 6 of you. You are close to Fenway and all the bars and clubs around there, as well as easy walking distance to all the other Back Bay watering holes. The green line subway or your feet will take you anywhere else you want to go. Boston is not New York. It%26#39;s a very easy city to get anywhere a visitor would want to goquickly. It%26#39;s a walking city with a good transit system if you don%26#39;t feel like walking much. Any area of Boston except the South Boston Waterfront would be fine for easily getting around the city. I just think the 6 of you would like the Back Bay area closer to the park.

Hi,

Just to give you an idea, traveling around all of downtown Boston is like spending the evening in Manhattan below 14th St. It%26#39;s not a big deal to take the T, or grab a taxi, or walk from one area to another.

There are bars and clubs everywhere. However, there are also clusters of places that are popular with sports fans, etc. One of those is outside of Fenway Park, along Landsdowne St. and Brookline Avenue. There is also a large cluster of bars around the TD Garden, along Causeway, Portland, Friend and Canal Sts. The bars near the Garden tend to be Irish places.

There is another big cluster around Faneuil Hall Market, both inside the market and outside on the surrounding streets. On Blackstone St., State St., Congress St. there are a lot of clubs and bars.

A bit further afield, there%26#39;s lots of clubs and bars in Central Sq, Davis Sq. and Harvard Sq. in Cambridge, and college hangouts in Allston/Brighton.

So the exact location of where you stay, isn%26#39;t all that critical, unless you are really interested in being able to stagger back to your hotel from a nearby bar.

I have no idea of your budget, but these days, there are deals to be had, so here are some suggestions:

The Onyx--a funky Kimpton hotel, right near the TD Garden and Quincy Market and all those bars.

Holiday Inn Select-Beacon Hill--walking distance to the Garden and Quincy Market bar areas.

Millenium Bostonian--across the street from Quincy Market and a few blocks from the Garden

Closer to Fenway, there%26#39;s the Hotel Commonwealth, which is a very nice luxury hotel right in Kenmore Sq.

Finally, there%26#39;s a Howard Johnson Motel right next to Fenway Park, and right in the center of all the bars and clubs around the park. It used to get terrible reviews, but it went through a makeover and now it seems to be much improved and gets good reviews here on TA. If you stay there, you can run back to your room after the game, freshen up and then run out again to hit the bars.

I keep looking at all these places and there pretty expensive. Does anyone know of anywhere we can put all 6 of us in a suite close to back bay. I think thats where we want to stay, close to back bay. The Double Tree Downtown seems to be the most unexpensive hotel close to back bay. Is this a good spot? Also is the Royal Sonesta any good. it looks a little far but its cheap. Thanx...

Hi,

Most hotels won%26#39;t allow more than 3-4 people per room, even in a suite. I think 6 people in a room isn%26#39;t going to work for you.

What exactly is your nightly room budget? I am surprised that the Howard Johnson%26#39;s didn%26#39;t fit the bill, as it%26#39;s relatively inexpensive.
