Itinerary Feedback please

We will be coming to Boston on May 16th for our honeymoon and leaving on the 22nd.

The original plan was to come in late Saturday night and check into the hotel. As of right now, we have the Langham booked for two nights for a Monday checkout. We were then going to rent a car and head out to Provincetown for two nights. While there, we were going to go whale watching and relax. Then, leave on Wednesday and head to the Vineyard for one night and stay at the Hob Knob Inn in Edgarstown. On Thursday, we would then head back to Boston for one last night at the Parker House

Now here%26#39;s where the dilemma comes in...

I recently got a better rate from the Hob Knob and now have been thinking about the following: Saturday and Sunday nights in Boston, then head to the Vineyard for two or three nights, and then head back to Boston for the final nights. In this way, we would miss Provincetown altogether, but would spend less time traveling and swapping hotels.

Opinions?

Not sure what you%26#39;d like us to say. It IS very doable, but it is YOUR honeymoon. You could actually spend all your time in Boston and take the ferry to Provincetown for a day trip - or not. Or either of your other alternatives. Or, you could go to Newport instead. What did YOU want to do?

As Alanm says, it%26#39;s your honeymoon. Are you planning to take the car on the ferry to the Vineyard? This will add to the cost. If you have never been to the Cape you might want to skip the Vineyard and see more of the Cape.

I guess my question would be if we went with option #1, then how feasible is it to do all that driving/traveling, and is it reasonable.

I have been to Boston before, but my wife-to-be has not.

Is one total day on Martha%26#39;s Vineyard (one afternoon/the next morning) enough to explore the whole island?

Option #1 will have you moving along at a good pace and it is do-able. Option #2 appeals to me because it allows more down time. Martha%26#39;s Vineyard is a very special place and one day is enough for a quick overview, but not to experience it. The island is very different from the Cape. Here you will not find a traffic light, Starbucks, MacDonalds or WalMart. All the above is on the Cape. Bringing your car over may be an added cost, but you are coming in the off-season with little traffic hassles and it would afford you the luxury to drive the entire 100 sq. miles of the island, stopping at one of the private beaches (you would not be able to get on in the summer) and taking a memorable stroll (think Squibnocket or Lucy Vincent beaches), and visit all five lighthouses on the island. The six towns of the island vary in character and architecture, each with their own feel. People here stop easily for pedestrians and allow cars to pull out/merge without hearing a horn honk. Wonderful place, wonderful people. Make a ferry reservation for your car on the Steamship Authority and Come on over!

Ditto from me (Knows%26#39; post above) The Vineyard is an idyllic place for your honeymoon.

Thanks for your responses!

I should have mentioned in my original post that we both have never been to the Cape before. Does this change the opinion to forego the Cape altogether and head straight to the Vineyard for a few days?

Thanks again...

I can%26#39;t think of what the Cape would have that the Vineyard wouldn%26#39;t... The island is what the Cape used to be before strip malls, Starbucks, etc. The six towns on the island have all styles of New England architecture and flavor. The Hob Knob is also ideal. I still vote for MV. But then again I live here and love it!

I do not live in the Vineyard but have been many times. It is best off season. There is so much to see, or just relax and enjoy the beautiful island. At that time of year, there will not be very many crowds, which means more time browsing in shops and dining in nice restaurants, and less time waiting in line. I have found that during off season, the shopkeepers and restaurant owners really like to talk to their customers and fill them in on what%26#39;s going on in the Vineyard. I would skip the Cape and stay in the Vineyard. It is so much nicer and much more relaxed, which I think is probably what you would like for a honeymoon. But that is just my opinion!

I think that we are back to what was said originally.

It%26#39;s your honeymoon.

I would skip Provincetown and stay at the Hob Nob. I just recently returned from a long trip and while I did get to see everything I wanted to see - I was exhausted and didn%26#39;t really get to relax. The Hob Nob is very nice - on of the nicest on the Island and the breakfast is fantastic and you are right in Edgartown - which is very pretty. You can rent a car or take public transportation which is available close by and costs next to nothing.
