Boston's equivalent to NYC's Greenwich Village or Soho

Wanted to know where I can catch the same vibe and feel? What area do the college students usually hang out? Planning to see the Boston ';nightlife'; and grab a drink or two...

Boston's equivalent to NYC's Greenwich Village or Soho

This is not NY, so you are not going to get the same ';vibes'; that you get there. That said, the closest we have to a ';funky'; area with some smaller art venues and ';edgier'; restaurants is the South End.

Since Boston has so many colleges and universities, there is no one area where all the college students hang out. But if you want an interesting area that often has street musicians, etc., try Harvard Square.

Hi,

Also, consider Davis Sq in Somerville for college night life.

Sorry....In my opinion there is nothing that matches NY here.

The only thing which even reminds me of NY here is the Back Back..Newbury Street area. This is only because the streets have organization and are set up in a grid formation.

You could stop by Fenway to see what recent World Series Banners look like. Ours probably resemble yours.

Eileen, you may want to read the post (and get out a little more). The man is looking for college “nightlife”. I don’t think Newbury St really fills that bill, you think?

And believe me, they have plenty of banners to look at in the Bronx.

Bos..you may want to read my post again... I said recent ones.

I read it....I don%26#39;t get to New York like in my younger days. I have never been reminded of Boston when there. Especially when in my clubing and college days where places close at 1:00 a.m. or at the best 2:00 a.m. here. I could never get my NY friends here because of this.

Hartford Ct. used to remind me more of NY than Boston. In fact the Providence accents make me feel more in New York than Boston.

Well...now I have heard it all. Hartford like NYC...interesting...

If you want a College Vibe, Harvard Sq, Allston, especially around the intersection of Harvard Ave. and Commonwealth Ave., Davis Sq. in Somerville, Central Sq. in Cambridge.

As far as which one might possibly approximate (notice my liberal use of modifiers here...) a Greenwich Village vibe, I%26#39;d say Davis Sq. or Central Sq.

Beantown: Do you find that statement amusing? Hartford used to have night clubs which would stay open to 4:00 a.m. In the sense that the town did not roll at 1:00 a.m.....yes, it did remind me more of NY than Boston.

Hartford%26#39;s clubs were more racially mixed in the 70%26#39;s and early 80%26#39;s than Boston. The dance clubs were always full with people from New York as well.

No offense, I%26#39;m really not saying this to jump all over you, but why would you come to Boston just to find the exact same thing you would find in NYC? I agree that Boston is nothing like NYC. The South End is cute, there are wonderful foodie restaurants and there is some nightlife, but it reminds me much more of the Chelsea neighborhood than anything else. I do think you would really enjoy Davis Square and Harvard Square, which are both incredibly lively and full of students. The Harvard Ave area in Allston is also very popular with BU and BC students. Also, you might check out the Boylston Street bars and/or the Kenmore/Landsdowne Street area.

I love Newbury Street and would definitely recommend it for a daytime visit, but there is very little nightlife there. And in general, the shops and restaurants are a little too pricey for college students.

';The college students'; tend to hang out near their schools. This is Boston, so take your pick.

The SoHo of today, full of over-priced boutiques and nary an artist in sight? Newbury Street.

The Greenwich village of today, completely gentrified with nary a poet in sight? South End.

Will either area remind you of New York? Not particularly.

';Nightlife';: what kind are you looking for? Fratty bars, dance clubs, or upscale lounges?
