Birthday Celebration

We are planning a girl%26#39;s trip to MV for a 40th birthday celebration and wanted to get input on the best area to stay. One friend has recommended Oak Bluffs b/c of proximity to fun restaurants and shops. Does this sound about right? We will be renting a house for a long weekend in August. We%26#39;re all about fun dinners, drinks and relaxing on the deck and some good shopping. Any info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Either Oak Bluffs or Edgartown would be fine.

Oak Bluffs has restaurants of all levels with a few on the harbor - great places for a sunset drink. Shopping, beach, and fun are all around. Bars and live music can be found in town.

Edgartown has many different restaurants, great shopping and two restaurants on the harbor. A bit more of a sedate atmosphere.

knows.. A previous poster on another thread refered to Oak bluffs as a place for ';local junkies and blue collar workers';. would you agree with this description. And what is a local junkie? I am thinking of renting a place around oak bluffs and will have two '; two twenty somethings'; with us. I thought it would be more fun for them to walk there in the evening than Edgartown. Any thoughts you have on the subject is appreciated. Also will things be open in early to mid june?

I live in Oak Bluffs and am not a %26#39;local junkie or a blue collar worker%26#39;. Inflammatory statements say more about the person executing them than the target. I suggest you private message the source.

I do believe most %26#39;twenty somethings%26#39; would enjoy Oak Bluffs, as opposed to Edgartown, but then again, not all. Walking from the Farm Pond area, I suggest they bring a small flashlight and cell phone. You can get turned around a bit, if not careful and there are few street lights.

All shops, restaurants and activities will be open by early to mid June.
