8 Days in Boston in June Please Help !

Could someone please help me with an itenary for our June 5-13th trip. We want to see everything!

We will fly into Providence on Friday, June 5 and somehow get to the Hyatt in Dedham. There are no plans to rent a car. We will leave on Saturday the 13th. Our top places to visit already will be the whale watch and we have tickets to the Red Sox game on that Wed. We plan to be there all morning up till the game ends. So could someone be kind and help me start an itenary? Thanks in advance! kc

Are you sure the Hyatt%26#39;s in Dedham?

8 Days in Boston in June Please Help !

Could you mean the Hilton in Dedham, that says it%26#39;s near the commuter rail station? (I%26#39;ve never been there, so I%26#39;m trusting their website.)

do you like to walk? Are you only looking for stuff on game day? How are you getting around? How close is hotel to green line? Boston is a great city to get around even without a car. There is a ferry to Provincetown. There is also a ferry to Nantasket beach for a beach day if you want. The subway goes just about everyplace but it is better to see Boston above ground. You can wander up and through Beacon Hill, the statehouse is a beautiful building to visit, cross thru the boston commons, spend time at the public gardens and swan boats, walk thru the north end for Paul Revere%26#39;s home and Old North Church and get some great italian food. You should have no problem filling your time.

I%26#39;m guessing you really mean the Hilton in Dedham and that you will be relying on commuter rail to get in and out of town. To make plans you should visit the T web site, www.mbta.com and look at the commuter rail schedule. It looks like you are on the Franklin line, but I%26#39;m not sure which stop. The commuter rail does not run constantly like the subway, so you have to be aware of when trains are scheduled. Also, can you walk to the commuter rail stop or is there a hotel shuttle.

There are really so many things to do in Boston. Give us an idea of where your interests lie. History? Museums? Outdoors? Shows? Fine Dining? Drinking and dancing? Are their kids along?

We love history and the ocean. Of course we are doing the Fenway tour and seeing the game that night.

What about that Boston Card? We don%26#39;t plan to see all that is offered on that card. So, would it be a waste of money? We will be staying all of the nights in Medford.

Hi KC,

My lordy, I see some serious issues with many aspects of your trip. You%26#39;re flying into Providence and staying in Medford, yet you don%26#39;t know how you%26#39;re going to get there? Your best option for getting there is renting a car and driving there, since no other transportation is available. I think you should rent a car for the whole trip and here%26#39;s why. The first reason is that you are using Providence to fly in/out of. Second is that the hotel offers free parking. Third is because the hotel shuttle is spotty, slow only runs until 9PM. How do you plan on getting from Boston back to Medford after the Red Sox game Wednesday night? The hotel sits between 2 ';T'; stations but neither are very close to the hotel and the shuttle stops running long before you make it back to either T station for pickup. Fourth, you want to see the ocean. While Boston has ocean, it%26#39;s just a harbor. I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;re thinking more along the lines of beautiful coastline, scenery and nice beaches to maybe talk a walk along. There is no commuter rail line in Medford that will take you on the coastal route. You would have to come down into Boston and pick it up there. Having the car to go exploring along Boston%26#39;s North Shore up into Cape Ann would be ideal. You could even take a roadtrip to visit Cape Cod if you wanted to. So, while you can use the hotel shuttle and the ';T'; to get into and out of Boston on some days, I think solely relying on that as your means to get around for 8 days will be pushing your patience and putting constraints on all you could and should see while you%26#39;re up here. Just the roundtrip costs between Medford and the Providence airport will probably pay to have a rental for the whole time your here, even if the car sits in the hotel parking lot half the time. I would like to hear what others have to say regarding this.

On the Go Boston Card, don%26#39;t purchase them if you don%26#39;t plan to use them extensively. They are a great way to save money, but only for the folks who plan there trips around using them daily. You seem like you want to ';wing it';, which to me is the best way to vacation, so I wouldn%26#39;t bother buying them.

What I meant to say is how do you plan on getting from the T station to your hotel after the Red Sox game Wednesday night. You won%26#39;t be getting into either the Davis or Wellingtom T stations until 11 or 11:30PM and the shuttle stops running at 9.

kc --- we really need to know where you are staying in order to help you the best ... first you said ';Hyatt Dedham'; but there is not Hyatt in Dedham, now you say ';all 8 nights in Medford';.

SO ... does that mean you are staying at the Hyatt in Medford? Before we have you travelling off into NeverNeverLand on the wrong train, you need to let us know!

Well, if history interests you, you should definitely walk the Freedom trail. Also, you can take a hop on/hop off trolley tour that will hit a lot of the Freedom Trail spots.

Well, it is possible to get to Medford from Providence without a car, but it wouldn%26#39;t be easy. One way is to take a commuter rail train from Providence. There are buses that will take you to the station. Get off at Back Bay Station in Boston. Switch to Orange Line and take it to Wellington Station in Medford. Then take shuttle, bus or cab to hotel. Then, you would have to do that in reverse back to airport. Or I think you could also take a bus line, like Greyhound or Peter Pan to Boston.

Will ... you make some good points, but Peter Pan is actually running a bus from TF Green to Boston now.

KC ... I don%26#39;t have time to find the link right now, but if you search for Peter Pan bus, once on their site, use ';TF GREEN'; (the name of the airport in Providence) as your starting location and Boston-South Station or Boston-Logan Airport as your ending location. From either of these points you%26#39;ll be able to get the T + hotel shuttle or a taxi to complete your journey.
