Olde Tavern Motel and Inn

I am checking out hotels in various parts of Cape Cod for our forthcoming vacation. I noted the Olde Tavern Motel was getting %26#39;rave%26#39; reviews - and I was so tempted to book it. However I have been looking through the reviews - they all seem very similar in style and content. I have come across at least 20 reviews that were written on the day the reviewer joined T/A. None of these people contributed anything else to any other T/A forum before of since the review. I may be wrong but I just feel it is a bit suspect.

I did notice that the other reviews were not nearly as favourable as the %26#39;rave reviews%26#39;.

Has anybody any genuine experience of this motel?

Olde Tavern Motel and Inn

hi bi: What night were you planning to use the hotel room?

Olde Tavern Motel and Inn

Fussyguest, We are exhausting all hotels in the Cape at the moment as we are having no luck getting somewhere for just 2 nights - 2 and 3 July. We were advised Wellfleet was great - however I can get nothing there at all. They all want a 3 night commitment. This hotel is one of the few that doesn%26#39;t. I was so impressed by the reviews too - that I thought I had struck it lucky. However the more I read into the reports/reviews - I am certain they are not genuine. So, I am back to the drawing board again.

To be fair to the Olde Tavern Motel - I have looked through many of the other %26#39;top%26#39; hotels in the area - and the pattern of excellent reviews - all giving 5/5 (where the writer joined T/A on the day of the posting the review and never contributed again) is very common. I dont mean to moan - it is just I always trusted T/A to guide me and I felt it was impartial. I know it is impossible to prevent hotel staff/owners posting inflated reviews of their properties to %26#39;push%26#39; their hotel to the top of the list. It just means extra work delving through the genuine and fake reviews and trying to decipher which is which.

Suspect hotel and restaurant reviews are the bane of TA and a recognized %26#39;weak link%26#39;, you%26#39;re right about that.

Have you has a look at the Highlander in Chatham? It%26#39;s set back on busy rte. 28 in %26#39;west%26#39; Chatham (between south chatham and downtown...this designation has to do with a post office rather than a coordinate on a map). I%26#39;m wondering if they%26#39;ll give you a few nights? This is Nothing fancy...typical motel from the %26#39;50%26#39;s but very clean and fine for a few days.

Did you take a look at The Cove in Orleans? Also nice.

You%26#39;ve obviously decided to leave Boston early rather than drive to your rental on the morning of the 4th?

Remember: Nothing fancy but getting good (I think honest) reviews on TA. Take a look at the Highlander:

And: The Cove in Orleans (there%26#39;s a different, unrelated %26#39;Cove Motel%26#39; in Yarmouth). I feel very comfortable ignoring the first %26#39;Cove%26#39; review as it stands out as a personal slam against the owners rather than an honest review. The other reviews are consistent with what my family and other posters here have found to be true about The Cove. It%26#39;s a decent place run by nice people.

Why not visit a different area of the Cape before you go on to your rental cottage? You%26#39;ll find it much easier to get a motel room where more exist like Hyannis and Yarmouth, possibly even Falmouth and Dennisport.

In Hyannis there%26#39;s lots to do for a couple of days and staying there would afford you the easy option of taking a day trip to Martha%26#39;s Vineyard on the ferry that departs right from the Harbor. Popular for the price, location and the Inn keepers is: seacoastcapecod.com/cape-cod-inns-reservatio… I can%26#39;t tell if they have availability for when you want to be there. There are tons of motels in Yarmouth. People on this forum happily mention the All Seasons right on Rt. 28 in Yarmouth and also the Red Jacket resorts right on the beach and at different ends of your accommodation budget too.

Thanks a million for the tips - much appreciated. We had planned to leave at say 4am on morning of 4th July - if we could not get a hotel - but after a long discussion we felt it is just too early a start. As we are staying in Chatham for a week we thought we would try somewhere else for a change.

I will look into advice you all gave and let yu know how we get on.

Bi: I do think you%26#39;ll continue to have a hard time for less than 3-4 nights, but let us know if you find something for that July 4th weekend.

If you decide to travel early on the 4th, you won%26#39;t need to leave as early as 4 a.m. It%26#39;s a quick trip from Boston to the Cape and as long as you%26#39;ve crossed the bridge by 9:00 or so you%26#39;ll be fine. Good luck!

You have checked out the Hyannis chain hotels already, haven%26#39;t you? thought so....

I don%26#39;t know what sort of place you%26#39;re looking for, but if a nice inn would fit the bill, check out the Tern Inn in West Harwich (www.theterninn.com). I checked their online booking calendar, and they seem to have some rooms free on those dates.

Falmouth Heights will take us - just e-mailed again. They will do it for $220 a night or Cape Wind Resort will take us for $300 a night. IsCape Wind worth the extra? Does naybody have any experience of Falmouth Heights???
